Here we go again  ;D

After it went well at the last open event I have been asked to do another Bomberman Competition

Round 1

4 players - First to 3 wins goes through - 6x rounds to play - 6 winners go through to Round 2

Round 2

2 players - First to 3 wins goes through - 3 winners go through to Final
(3x to play if 24 players)

Final

3 players - First to 5 wins 1st Prize.
2nd Place will go to the remaining player with the highest number of rounds at this point.
3rd  Place will go to the remaining player with the lowest number of rounds at this point.
If 2 & 3 are drawn at this point then a sudden death 1 round play off to decide 2nd & 3rd

£4 to enter - payable on the day at sign up
3rd prize - RCM mug
2nd prize - RCM polo shirt
1st prize - RCM fleece

We may need to order the polo shirt & fleece for the winners as we only have so many in stock

Please let me know if your interested and I will sign up the first 24 people on the day.

The Bomberman tournament was awesome, even though I failed miserably at it!

It really is a great "party" game!

I do agree with the messages left in the feedback section though, a PA would have helped out a lot.

Bomberman just worked so well as a tournament game, I think other mini tournaments could have been fun too, maybe a street fighter II tournament or a high score run on games such as Sonic too. That said though, I think they would be nice to have as well as the Bomberman tournament, as they would be over a lot quicker and could go on through the whole day.

High score competition was done before and also mario kart on the snes. The great thing about bomberman is that anyone can play and have a chance of winning. More people are likely to join in and have a go for that reason alone.

I agree, it's a very easy to pick up game. Although I went out in the first round this time :'(

Like I said it's a game most of us can pick up and play :)

Though some of us are better at it that others *cough*.

Thank's for the feedback about the competition.

The reason we have run Bomberman twice now is as you have said above....it easy for anyone to play.

We are open to suggestions for more games to consider for next time...ideally be four player

I already have the following to bear in mind:-

Mega Drive - Micro Machines
Atari 2600 - Warlords

And some muppet of a gamer won his own bloody booby-prize for the quickest suicide .. can't think who that was... oh yes, that muppet would be me :)

But at least someone else went home with that pristine copy of Rise of the Robots :)

You did but what I was trying to say was that I don't play that game very often. Last time I played it was at the Nov event which again was against you.

Quite pleased that i actually won one game as i do surely suck at bomberman. But....the 4-up is brilliant.

Alas for me, it was a case of either enter the Bomberman competition or buy some lunch.

Unfortunately I like my food way too much  :)

The Bomberman tournament was fantastic fun. I loved it.

If you're ever planning on doing another Bomberman tournament, then should we try to get the fully-loaded 10-player Saturn version up and running? Ten player Bomberman would be total carnage, and it would look spectacular on the big projector. Does anyone have the necessary equipment? I'm sure we could easily muster ten Saturn joypads (I have two that I could bring along) and a copy of Saturn Bomberman... but what about the two multi-taps? Or, if we were going for a truly authentic feel, how about the special Bomberman-shaped "SBOM" multi-taps? ;)

Someone else suggested 4-player Micro Machines 2 on the Mega Drive. That's always gone down well whenever I've played it in multiplayer mode. In my final year of school (over ten years ago!!), we had a copy of Micro Machines 2 in the common room, which we would play during lunch break and "study" periods. There was always a queue of people waiting to play, so we had a system whereby the bottom-two players would get booted off at the end of each game to make way for the next two people in the queue. Happy times...

N64 Goldeneye is always a fantastic multiplayer game, though it isn't as easy to pick up as Bomberman.

Funny you should say about 10 player bomberman on the Saturn . . .
We now have the game, two multitaps and ten brand new controllers on the way! ;)
A massive thank you to porchy and rewind for sorting this for us!

Andy

and @comicbooknerd - I will keep that in mind too. We do have that and several N64s . . . :)

Could be a nice tie in with the release of the Wii Goldeneye 007 game too  ;D

I can't quite remember exactly but I'm sure the Japanese Saturn version of Bomberman had an online mode with up to 16 players on it! I could be wrong on the number but i'm sure it was more than 10!

Would it be worth running more than one competition ?
