Title: Thanks for a great event today (Sept 17th)
Post by: WizRider on September 17, 2011, 09:31:46 PM
Hi all.

Nice to meet some of you today at the members event.
Good talking to you about the FreeBasic stuff Andy. Looking forward to having a bit of a play with that once I get some time.

Mike, thanks for showing us the lowdown on the Atari 800XL: have already been checking eBay for prices.

So anyway, thanks again. John and I had a really good time.

Cheers...

Thanks very much for putting on an excellent day.
I had a great laugh from start to finish!

It was great to see the usual faces (AndyRCM, Stiggy, Phu, Jimbob, Skarlettkitten, muguk, PhoenixTKB eventually and many more) and also was great to see some new faces (sorry, but I can't remember names: there was a guy called Adam who does some stuff for VCF - he did tell me his forum name but can't remember, also, the chap with the laser projector - had a great chat with him)

Next event, I *promise* I won't spend the majority of the event playing Lemmings, Head Over Heels and Doom (although I did go the whole day without playing SF2, which is some achievement for me)

There's only one negative: it had to finish at some point!

What a great day that was and hoping that everyone had a good time....didn't it go so quickly though!

Thanks once again to Andy and co for hosting RCMs first event in there new home, can't wait for many more.

Someone was asking me about copies of my photographs on the RCM Walls but alas I've forgotten who it was :( if you want to pm me I'll send you the jpgs.

Personally I think we should ban Mike from bringing a camera. I am not going bald, it's just the light  ;D

Shame the huge Vectrex was poorly in the end, I'm sure Dr Phu will have it back up and running for next time.

P.s where can I get one of those laser projectors. Star Wars arcade was ace!

P.p.s Sophie...admit it, although you whooped my ass again on the DC, I got you scared for a little while....probably

P.p.p.s Mike...you ******  ;D

P.p.p.p.p....etc etc etc. THANKS ANDY

I'd just like to add my personal thanks to all that organised yesterday, and especially the heros that did the massive chip run :)

Always good to make new friends (thanks Woody for sorting me out on the Beeb; and MugUK for the Android tips.  Playing mods on my phone as I type  8) ), and meet up with old ones.

...didn't it go so quickly though!

Yes. I spent too much time playing Green Beret and Combat School* and Chuckie Egg, and didn't get around to half the machines I'd planned.  Oh well, there's always next time  ;)

* Own up if you were the person I was playing Combat School against early doors.  Sorry I didn't get your name, but I did smash our scores post-WarGames  ;D :P

I need to say thanks . . . to all of RCMs admins . . . you know how much you all mean to RCM!

Equally so - to everybody who purchased tickets and supported us yesterday - it was great to see you ALL yesterday . . . all I can say is where the hell did the time go?

It wasn't me but I sat down at the Mame cab later in the evening and noticed Combat School was left running. Haven't played it in ages and was so much fun to play it again so thanks for unknowingly bringing it back to my attention!

As usual, it was a great day.  Pity I had to leave early but them's the breaks when you rely on good old public transport to get from the city and built-up areas into the back of beyond (i.e. anywhere past Loughborough station) - even our 'local' AndyAndy couldn't cope with Loughborough station being flattened and the blocked access to the station car park :)

Was a good craic as per usual - everyone who knows me has twigged that I go to RCM mostly for the social aspects and a bit of retro-gaming - so I always enjoy myself ;-)

If we're going to hold these regularly, then I'll need to find a local hotel that I stay at on the Saturday night as I missed the film at the end.  I can't get down there more often than once a month - and I'm sure Phu will breathe a sigh of relief at that :)

And, purely as an aside, hands up those who think Stiggy should change his RCM ID to 'CropCircleDenier2011'? :)

It's unlike me to take a multi-gazillion photographs but i was waaay to busy having fun. Even though i did take my camera, it never came out of my bag! I've only got a handful of grainy phone shots which i've uploaded to FB

"Id piss on a spark plug if I thought it would help" - classic

Space Harrier on the Atari blew me away, great piece of programming, and hate to admit it but th erally game on the new playstation was great.

Cheers and see you at the next one.

Well what can I say, another great RCM day, was a shame I had to leave much earlier than expected, but as some of you were aware I've had a few problems at home (like the house nearly burning down !), however there were some definate highs  ;D

Space Harrier on the 800XL, truly awesome to see what could be achieved on an 8 bit machine !

The camputers Lynx loading on multiple occaions (do not loose that tape player !)

The Dragon MMC prototype, thank you to Prime for demo'ing it, it was amazing to see it speedload a tape image in 3 to 4 seconds !!

Massive thank you to questor for sorting my Amiga CF card, so nice to be able to play Chaos Engine AGA again  :) even bigger thank you for donating to me the DragonDos, real shame I can't get to use any of my machines for a few months.

MugUK introducing me to Volfied on the arcade cab, and then promptly thrashing me at every game I played.

It reminded me of  a budget title I owned on the speccy, but I forget the name.  It was okay as far as it went, and I seemed to do okay the first game, but I got progressively worse the more I played,  :D

Cool, that clears that up.  I see he doesn't post much on here, so if he isn't lurking you can let him know I beat the Sargent, but got killed by the third terrorist  ;)
