Also, just out of curiosity is anyone planning on staying over the night before or even Sunday night?

Not 100% sure (so Andy, please correct me if I'm wrong) but I think it's 10:00am till 5:00pm!?!
I went with Boyo last year, so hence, didn't drive!
I've got to remember how to get to it ::)

Obviously, with it being a short drive (an hour away), I'm not stopping in any hotel etc. I'll just go home after the event finishes.

Oh! So I was only half an hour out :D
That'd be a welcome addition to the website.
Also, a map of the surrounding area might be useful for those who've never been before (and those, like me, with a memory capacity equivalent to a ZX81)

I should be able to make the trip to the open day with 4 friends:

Steve Rich (jobf / BigManGames)
Mat Allen (mayhem)
Keith Ainsworth (Retrogamer fanzine)
Paul Little (residentpaul)

We have a gaming weekend once in a while, and this time have decided to combine it with a trip to the RCM. Hopefully the others will sort out their tickets soon.

Cheers

Wow....! I was just going through rom collection for my Mame PC/Cab and thinking back to the old 'puters i've owned (started with a Commodore +4), which then prompted me to surf eBay for 'Mr Puniverse', which then led me to surf around old computers websites.....which finally brought me to your site and the fantastic news that you're having an opening day...phew!

I will SO be there !!  ;D

Keep up the good work guys.

Just out of interest, what's parking like near 'The Institute' (sounds like some asylum out of a 70's horror film  ;D ), checked on route planner, only about 45minutes away  :D

Is the Institute anywhere on this map, this is where the AA routefinder is sending me  ::)
Title: Re: Retro Gaming Event May 2009 - Tickets Now On Sale
Post by: The Twins on May 27, 2009, 11:27:04 AM
The Institute is the building at the top of the map with the parking spaces showing at the back, opposite the bus stop that is marked.

Parking is for around 20 or so cars, but sensible parking on the road is okay, as there are no yellow lines.  About 400 yards down the road is a pub called the Fountain, which is closed , so parking on that carpark is also possible.

Post by: Panther on May 27, 2009, 11:42:34 AM

Best leave the Stretched Hummer at home then  :P don't want to be taking up 8 parking spaces  :D

Just thought I would thank all that obviously took great time and effort to produce what was a very intresting day out. Nice line up of machines and even a few that made me go Ooooooo !!!.. C116 & JVC MSX come to mind.

Only wish I had known earlier about the event and I would have brought some cabs and bits of my own, though the Black Acorn Atom I nipped back for seemed to cause a stir, even more when it worked....

So, looking forward to next meet in November for sure and Andy, you have my 100% support on any mad ideas you might like to implement but I aint luggin the triple screen ridge racer !!

Well done all, and very nice to meet people for the first time.

Thx

Always great to see familiar faces and meeting new people. Didn't get to speak to everyone, but will hopefully catch up with those I didn't at the next meet in November (when do the tickets go up for sale?! ;))!

You can't make it to Console Combat in two months time then?

Oh yes, definitely going to Console Combat! Already bought the tickets for that and Retro Reunited.

I was just thinking ahead about the next RCM :D

Oh, I did not know a date had been set for the next one already.

Where can I buy a ticket?  :)

What a cracking day. Many thanks to you & team for all your hard work and effort getting everything set up and for the many more that contributed. Bring the next event!!

Highlights for me were-

1) Not getting lost on the drive down.
2) After years, finally getting my mitts on a Vectrex...i'm scouring eBay now.
3) Thanks to the chap with Bartop mame cab (yellow t-molding) for answering all my Ipac related questions.
4) Thanks to Andy's father - we had a right old natter about Digital cameras & was trying out each others lenses.
5) Xenon II on th A3000.
6) Seeing how the ZX+3 modificatiions worked.
7) Superb carrot cake.

I'll be uploading most of photo's to Flickr tomorrow. Here's a sample

5) Xenon II on th A3000.
Cool, glad you liked that.
After speaking with many people, it seems that my A3000 is very popular.
A lot of people seem to prefer that I bring that to events rather than my A1200 that I normally take :o

Thanks again mate, bookmarking it now.

I've had my cab for a while now and plan to finish it off this year. I've got all the bits i need, just need to wire it altogether and hunt out my configs for MameWah.

Once completed I like to start on a cocktail cab.

A few photo's are on my Flickr page.

Yeah, those were exactly the kind of 'hardware porn' shots I was referring to when I suggested a while back that each machine on the RCM site should have a set of 'sexy' photos...
