Title: Enjoying the past
Post by: BeebHack on March 14, 2015, 04:21:17 PM
I've just bought myself a BBC Master Turbo as a way of enjoying a trip down memory lane. My first computer was a Sinclair Spectrum, back when it was originally launched, quickly replaced by a BBC Micro Model B and then by a Master. After that, I moved over to PCs. As a journalist, I moved into IT in 1984 (having originally worked on photography mags) with the launch of two MSX titles. I'm still a journalist, still in IT (specialising in security these days). And although I enjoy coding for a hobby in Python, C++ and Objective-C for platforms like the Raspberry Pi, Beaglebone Black and iOS, there's still something about 8-bit machines that seems more real, somehow.

Back in the day, I dabbled a bit in assembler and Lisp before getting sidetracked into the PC world, so now I'm going back and doing more of that - all the stuff I didn't do at the time. And I'm reminding myself quite what an amazing machine the BBC was...

Never really dabbled with the Beeb, must give it more of a go next time I am at RCM.
