Title: RCM Open Day?
Post by: AndyRCM on July 21, 2008, 10:39:52 PM
Who would be interested in an Open Day at a local (to me) Community Hall, we are thinking sometime in late October/early November ish.

When I say Open Day I mean a hands on retro experience with some of the many consoles/computers we have?
There would be a small charge payable, although this would be just to cover the cost of the hall.
Around 20 or so computers/consoles will be on display and most/all will be able to be played on.
Linda will be making cakes and we will also be serving refreshments, again unfortunately with a small charge.

Anybody interested? Let me know in this thread.

I will also need a couple of people to help and hopefully to bring some stuff with them such as computers/monitors etc. Any takers for this (PM me if you can help!)

Andy and Linda

Count me in matey - I have several systems I can bring along - Might be an idea to get some people who are happy to loan old telly's for the cause, as I have many systems, but only a couple of TV's/Monitors?

Mikey's likewise mate - he's a very helpful chap, and has nice examples of the rarer stuff (Vectrex's, Oric, etc)....

Like I say, count me in for helping out!  (As long as I get one of those cakes I've heard so much about lol!)    ;D

Good man for trying to get something organised mate! - RF08's only just finished, but I need another Retro Fix!!!!   :D

Den.

Whoops.... maybe I should have PM'd that like you asked  lol!

Still, we can all see what the response is like if it's public...    ;D

Cool matey - that would be great - I will try and find some more tvs and the like . . . i think maybe a c64 running demos would be great. like you did at rf08? Do you agree?

Damn straight matey - you gots'ta have demos!!...    :D

Seriously though, it seemed to go down great mate - had a LOT of people comment even when the place was packing up, and I only got the chance to show some of them!

Failing that, Mikey and I were going to record some of the best stuff to play in a DVD player, and that could play next to the C64 itself if pushing the demos on manually proves to be unworkable?

...but like you said - there are some AMAZING C64 demos out there, and people who have an ounce of nostalgia for the C64 should really check 'em out, if only to see what the machine is capable of besides those games! - so I'm game for bringing the setup along...   ;D

I am thinking of something like this as A2 Posters for the actual day/event, posted somewhere on the outside of the building . . . and also like this for an advert but with date, time and address details for local press.

What are you thoughts on this? Okay? Need to change wording? Is it Crap?

I could pop along too. Let me know if you want me to bring any of my systems.

I could bring my Spectrum +3 with the IDE interface. Will fill the HDD with games. What about the Einstein? Or my apple ][ stuff?

Right then . . . this open day . . .

We have had an answer back for the venue, it is going to be on the 16th November (so far) - an ALL day event!
The room hire (including kitchen) is going to cost us £55 for the entire day!
Which means what we really need to do is get at least 22 people, each paying £2.50 each to cover the costs of the venue.
Does everybody/anybody else think this is do-able? I need to put something in the Loughborough Echo, which has quite a big circulation.
I need to get it posted on every retro gaming forum everywhere as well. Any offers for help there would be appreciated.

Thoughts please?

Andy (and Linda)

Wow £55.00 is cheap!

Does that need staff for the kitchen?

See if you can get it advertised in the local free paper, I forget what its called, Bradgate mail or something like that, and the Leicester Trader.

Is it going to be ticket only? or an open house? any thoughts on getting a max number of people like retro fusion?

It sounds great anyway!  ;D

£55 is very good.
Kitchen staff will probably be Linda and my mum (maybe?).
There are lots of free papers like them, need to contact them asap to do this.
Ticket and Open House, both are fine, as for max number, I need to also find that out as well!
Do you think £2.50 is okay to charge people?
Thanks for that Dave!

Righty ho . . .

The room can hold 100+ people, so that is no problem, there is also a smaller room which could be used for the refreshment side, i.e. The Wheat Free Tea Room.
I think if we say we would like/love 80 people to attend - that way we have loads of room for the tables etc . . . hopefully.
Might do a bit of a rehearsal sometime with Linda. To see what can go where etc!

Hello  :D

I'm new to the site, thanks for the plug on Game Central today......I now know there are other like minded people in the Leicester area.

I'm interested in attending the event, and might be able to get some other retro friends to join too.

I may be able to bring my Oric-1 48k complete with printer plotter (i know the ink's have run out/dry by now) I'll just have to go back to my parents in Birmingham to check it still works though as I've never moved it to my home in Wigston.

I also have Nintendo Game & Watch - 2 screen Donkey Kong, It did fully work before the batteries ran out!

What other systems would be welcomed?  I know they are more common but I've also got a USA Sega Genesis, Atari Jaguar (with Tempest 2000, Aliens vs Predator and Cybermorph) all original boxed. In fact the Game & Watch is original Boxed - like most of my collection of consoles & computers.

I'll see what else I've got that may be of help for the day.....Time for the long put off stock take in the loft & storage area's!!

Cheers   :D

We have sat down and worked some prices out for the Open Day . . .

Advance tickets - paid through paypal - will be £2.50 adult and 50p for children.

Entrance on the day - will be £3.50 adult and 50p for children.

The entrance fee is to pay for advertising, the hire of the room and kitchen facilities. If there is anything left after that - it will be to buy more computers/consoles for the museum and baking stuff for Linda.

I'll advertise this event on my website if you like, with a link to the ticket sales page.

If you haven't collected the Amiga 500 from me, should I bring it with me?

@Combatking
Yeah - that would be great on both counts - althought I do aim to pick it up before hand!
Thanks

Excellent. If you have a banner or any other graphics you'd like me to use in the advert, just point me in the right direction.

You might want to give me a description of the event as well, in your own words to avoid disapointment, as I'm prone to getting things mixed up.

If you want a Sega Saturn Steering Wheel, and it hasn't sold before you come to collect it, you can have that as well. I've tried to sell it twice on eBay, both times to no avail. It's up for sale on my shop, but it's yours if you want it.

CombatKing0,
Sounds good to me - i would love the steering wheel as well! Wicked!!!
I will write something up and get it to you asap!
