OFF TOPIC / Re: Joke of the Day . . .
« on: May 23, 2009, 08:47:33 PM »
An old, blind cowboy wanders into an all-girl biker bar by mistake. He finds his way to a barstool and orders a beer. After sitting there for a while, he yells to the bartender, 'Hey, you wanna hear a blonde joke?'

The bar immediately falls absolutely silent. In a very deep, husky voice, the woman next to him says, 'Before you tell that joke, Cowboy, I think it is only fair, given that you are blind, that you should know five things:

The bartender is a blonde girl with a baseball bat.
The bouncer is a blonde girl.
I'm a 6-foot tall, 175-pound blonde woman with a black belt in karate.
The woman sitting next to me is blonde and a professional weightlifter.
The lady to your right is blonde and a professional wrestler.
'Now, think about it seriously, Mister. Do you still wanna tell that joke?'

The blind cowboy thinks for a second, shakes his head, and mutters, 'No...not if I'm gonna have to explain it five times.'

GAMING . . . / VG Music
« on: May 23, 2009, 06:31:16 PM »
Hi everyone,

There's a website called VG Music. It's full of music from most systems we grew up with.

I'm sure everyone knows, but just in case, if you left click on the song it'll play it via Quicktime Player. Once you've heard it, go back and right click 'Save Target As'. I've downloaded many classics!

If you're putting it onto iTunes for example, the iPod often won't recognise the file as being a music file if you try to upload it. Press the option 'Convert To AAC File' and then it'll work fine (and don't forget to delete the one you first downloaded to save space).

The link is: http://www.vgmusic.com/

Hi everyone,

I'm sorry, I should of done this first instead of leaving my opening comment re the link on teletext site Game Central! I'd just like to repeat that I think this site is excellent and it's amazing how all these machines have been researched, photos etc.

I'm originally from Birmingham and then moved to London with the family when I was 5 years old. Some golden memories of playing my mates at various arcade games include 'Street Fighter II', where there would be fierce competition! Then the sheer amazement when 'Virtua Racing' and particularly 'Daytona USA' came out - literally about 50-60 people all looking and playing one machine. I miss that whole magical atmosphere of an arcade.

Brilliant site and I hope to see you all very soon :-)

Hi everyone,

I've just joined precisely because of the letter on Game Central :-) I have to say, it's an excellent website, well done! It's mad looking at all the old machines again, really well done to everyone for providing the consoles/games.

For me it all started off with a Spectrum 48k, then +2. I was always gutted when they showed screenshots for the game and would show the Amiga or Atari ST version. The Spectrum version was nowhere near! Still a classic machine though and I still play the emulators now (and can still hardly finish any of them!).

I was then part of the whole 'Sega vs. Nintendo' wars through the 90's, as I finally got a Megadrive, then Saturn. It's such a shame Sega messed around with the Saturn :-( Felt a bit like a traitor when I bought a PS1. Then onto PS2 and currently on XBox 360.

I think I was part of a lucky generation where playing games has slowly but surely switched from being a geeky thing to a thing that is done by everyone now. I'm 30 at the moment but have no plans to give up anytime soon! If I have children and they're there with the latest fighting game, I'll just show them the legends such as 'Yie Ar Kung Fu', 'Target Renegade', 'Streets of Rage' and the best fighting game EVER, 'Street Fighter II'.

I look forward to visiting this site and it's members very often :-)
