GENERAL RETRO CHIT CHAT / RCM invtro...
« on: February 15, 2009, 09:19:53 PM »
The colours look really bad and I need to draw a font for it but hopefully I'll have it acceptably finished by the end of the week :)

At the moment the intro takes you for a trip through some cubes while there are some things happening in time to the music.

Andy, any preference of what module to use? I can't get an original song unfortunately.

Also I will need your text to compile into the invite :)

RCM ANNOUNCEMENTS / Database order
« on: November 21, 2008, 11:20:51 AM »
I successfully installed a script today that fixes the database order.

What this means is that when Andy adds more systems to the database, when you are browsing them, the arrows click through the systems in alphabetical order now and not in the order that they were added to the database.

This should make them easier to browse :)

The good thing is that the order can be fixed with one muuse click in the future when more systems get added.

I've changed the template to show a breakdown of who is online including spiders online.

GENERAL RETRO CHIT CHAT / Template offer
« on: October 03, 2008, 10:50:05 PM »
Andy asked me to see if I could get any good template made by a famous gfxer in the demo scene.

Dicab of Alcatraz ( http://alcatraz.untergrund.net/index.php )and Codigos told me tonight that he will have time to do one in about 8 weeks. If you're interested? :)

It would be a good time to add stuff to rcm like search etc.
If you want him to do it then it would be a great idea to populate the database with the missing screenshots ;) and more decriptive descriptions.

But it's great news.

Dicab makes some really good web templates, believe me.
Here's the next but one website I have to make (He made this for Ampli);

http://dic4b.untergrund.net/ampli/

Amazing now I actually have a queue of 4 websites I have to build ;)

RCM ANNOUNCEMENTS / Front Page.
« on: October 02, 2008, 12:21:19 PM »
I changed;

Removed extraneous dot on front page.
Added two fields to the database (first and last manufacture).
(Andy you will need to populate all these fields yourself, you can do it in phpmyadmin).
Altered the display system template to include the new database fields.

Large alteration to display system template;

Navigation buttons are added.
Now this is a little bit of a pain in the neck because the database is ordered by a primary key (each entry has an id). Because the records were not added alphabetically to the database it indexes them at the moment via the primary key so if you are looking at
Commodore 16
and press >>
You will not necessarily get
Commodore 64

What you will get is the next primary key.
To alphabeticise them I have got three solutions in mind but I am going to think these through carefully before I impliment them, so anyway if anybody complains for now I will just remove the buttons :P You can still browse through all the systems with the nav buttons and the changes I make to this to make it work as I want in future will not have to touch the display system script, I've redirected to other scripts to handle the increase and decrease of record according to what was pressed.

Other things..

I was given screenshots, these look to have been taken in a hurry and were not even of a consistent size and I don't have time to convert them so I didn't do anything with them. Also there are so many systems on here without screen shots that it would just make the site look totally broken if I added the game screen shots now.

Was asked to do grouping on the side, this would mean a new template, that's something for the future and a good idea too :)

Also the colour on the front page needed to be changed to make the RCM open day stand out.

No information was given to me about what the colour change should be so I left it as it was, I am honestly not lying when I say that I dont have a lot of time :)

Was asked to add Combatkings game and a helicopter game, but again I was not sent the game, I gave andy the resources to look and see what games he wants but I do not have the time to trawl the internet for these things I am afraid.

So in all I did what I could today, I will be back on to alter the browse buttons, if the screen shots for the systems are more up to date next time I do work here I will add the game screen shots.
Also if Andy wants to get the games together I will do them at the same time.

Best wishes,

Nick.

GENERAL RETRO CHIT CHAT / Remake Fest!
« on: August 31, 2008, 09:40:49 PM »
Hehe, I remade three Amiga cracktros in one weekend.

I have another project with Stormbringer/Alcatraz, it's called retro-remakes.net and we're up to 118 remakes!

I added you to the links page of that site, here's some remakes I made over the last few days.

(Some bad language in the SAE one).

It can be quite challenging to make the remake as close to 100% accurate as possible, but good fun!

GENERAL RETRO CHIT CHAT / New post for luck!
« on: July 19, 2008, 03:44:11 PM »
Moving DBFinteractive for real now.

This is a scary, scary moment!

I had problems with the test, missing avatars and attachments, this time it's for real so hopefully it will go more smoothly.

GENERAL RETRO CHIT CHAT / Web Overload!
« on: July 17, 2008, 07:54:27 PM »
I can't believe that I have used nearly 800mb of server space on my main site.. I have to move it to a new host now, the system is similar to the one on this site but oh my god... 44,000 posts.

It's seriously hard work.

I look forward to the time when you out-grow this host and you have to go to a bigger one!

GENERAL RETRO CHIT CHAT / Machines Comments?
« on: July 06, 2008, 07:47:43 PM »
I really like browsing the systems you have online, the technical specifications are great, but do you plan to expand on the software available for the machines and put more comments?

I reckon that would be awesome!

(If you need more space I can always alter the database to allow for it, or more screen shots).

GENERAL RETRO CHIT CHAT / Please bear with me.
« on: July 03, 2008, 07:47:59 PM »
Yes I know it's a bit of a stark contrast, Andy's front page has gone and there's this in its place!

As it happens I am mostly finished on the coding of the main site which will integrate properly with this forum, so you will be able to see what is going on in the forum on the main site.

As it's all being custom built for this site it is taking a while to put together and also Andy is very busy collating as much computer information as he can for the database.

Please feel free to use these forums while I work on the rest of the site.

I am looking forward to handing the keys over to Andy and Linda as soon as possible

Thanks.

Nick.

ARCADE / Games installed and tested.
« on: July 03, 2008, 07:44:29 PM »
I installed 11 classic arcade games today, there are thousands of flash arcade games that will run in the arcade system that is installed here, however I picked 11 classic ones.

I ommitted some obvious choices like space invaders, pong etc because the quality of these games can be unreliable.

The ones I put in the arcade are both well known and known to work well.

Have fun playing them!
