FOR SALE / WANTED / WTB NES/SNES PSU
« on: May 14, 2016, 09:10:16 PM »
Hi everyone,

Bit of a long shot here but im after a few UK NES/SNES power supplies. Im trying to find some online but there's a large amount out there that arent fit for what they are advertising. I was wondering if anyone here happened to have any at all, or could at least link me to somewhere online that actually sells ones that will fit the bill. I dont mind buying third party ones, just so long as they do the job!

Thanks in advance.

FOR SALE / WANTED / Disk Cleaning Service
« on: November 09, 2012, 05:42:23 PM »
Hi everyone, not sure if this is the best place to start this thread but If it needs moving I understand.

At the moment I'm just trying to see if this would be of any interest to anyone.

About 3 months ago I bought a Cd cleaner for my ebay business. I bought the VMI 2550 by TDR and so far have been very impressed with it. At £599 + Vat it was by no means a cheap machine. Iv'e had cheaper models before and often been disappointed but for my business and the amount I have to clean this has been fantastic. So far I have cleaned around 500 games. Out of these very very few still wont work, but these were well and truly hammered!

Most of my stock comes from carboots etc and sometimes can be in absolutely horrible condition. Some disks look better than others after a clean ( often the ps1 black discs can still look a bit scratched but work fine when tested ) Silver bottom disks often come out looking as good as new.

The machine has two settings, normal or deep clean. 1 mins and 2 mins respectively. Each disk has to have a special solution put on it before it is buffed. Basically each time this machine is used it buffs away a layer at the CD. The more its used the more it "skims off " the disk.

Some games I have had to clean 3/4 times to get to work but these are ones that have been well and truly battered. Most disks with just light scratches etc are done in a single cycle.

I also have a business partner who has a different model. He has the Buffer machine. What his machine does is heats the disc up and effiectly melts the very top layer of plastic and irons out any scratches. Its a quicker machine and works brilliant but for very deep scratches its not so good as it will only ever heat the same amount of plastic and so will not always be able to clean as well as my machine.

Usually in places such as Gamestation / Blockbuster you can be charged around £3 per disk to be cleaned.

Im just trying to see what interest there would be for people to send me there disks to clean. I would be willing to clean disks much cheaper but we would have to add the cost of postage in aswell. I was thinking if enough people wanted to do it we could always arrange a joblot post through RCM or at some stage when I get a car next year, potentiialy I could bring it with me to the RCM events.

At the moment it costs me 11p per min in consumables. (buffing wheel needs replacing every 500 uses and the fluid will also run out. There is also a chip in the machine that is only good for 500 mins use, you buy consumable packs thr have a new wheel, fluid and chip every 500 uses. chips cannot be reused etc so your stuck having to order a new pack)

Some discs may take 2 or 3 deep cleans to clean if they are really bad which would cost me 66p to do ( 3 x 2 min cycles at 11p per min )

If this is something that is of interest then I will sort out a proper way to deal with this. I was thinking having maybe a minimum amount of discs to be cleaned. maybe charge 50p per light scratch disk and £1 for deep scratched disks. Perhaps a minimum of 10 disks and Ill post them pack included in the price or if its any less than 10 you pay return postage too.

Its just an idea at the moment but I would like to know what people think and if they would be interested in. Sorry for the massive essay.

Heres a link to the machine I own - http://www.totaldiscrepair.co.uk/machines/vmi-2550-buffer

And the machine my business partner owns - http://www.totaldiscrepair.co.uk/machines/vmi-3550-buffer

Between the two machines we have available i'm sure we can clean almost anything, if mine wont do the job his will and vice versa.

Apologise for the essay above!

Any feedback and questions would be appreciated! I plan to offer a similar service through  my website to the public one day so really any feedback will help!

GENERAL RETRO CHIT CHAT / Help with using DOSBOX
« on: October 28, 2012, 04:31:14 PM »
Hi everyone,

I'm trying to get Dosbox working on my PC and wondered if anyone could help.

I sell quite a lot of Windows 95 era pc games on my ebay store and need to test them before I post to see if they work ok or not.

Im trying to get dosbox to run the games from the cd drive without having to copy the disc image as I am actually trying to get it to read the official disc.

Im sure I could get it to work by burning the disc image and using that but in all honesty I have so many to test I don't have the time to do this for each game, whereas running direct from the disc would be far quicker.

Hope the above makes sense :S

If it helps my disc drive is :F on my laptop. Hope someone can help me with this!

Thanks
