I'll open it up to everyone, if you want me to modify a donor cartridge with chips soldered in and cartridge cases modified to include an SD card slot I will setup a Just Giving webpage where you can make a donation for the work. Just send me a donor cartridge and some stamps for return postage (or send me a couple of quid via PayPal for recorded return delivery)

It will most likely be for the Make a Wish Foundation & Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, you can choose which one to give your donation too. The amount is upto you, I don't mind if it's a £1 or £10, whatever you like is Ok.
I will sort it out when DBloke/DPrinny/Mike is about to get the orders in.
TL;DR - Certain PCBs need a chip to get them to work, the N64 one needs a CIC chip from the region that the console is in order for it to work, these are found in every N64 game.
The Super Everdrive can have a "DSP1" chip soldered onto it to make Super Mario kart work theres a list online that lists games that have this chip

Together in Electric Dreams;

Written by Daniel Thackeray and produced by Lass O'Gowrie Production, "Together in Electric Dreams" is a new play which examines the relationship between Sir Clive Sinclair and Alan Sugar (now Lord Sugar of Apprentice fame). The production centres on a meeting in a restaurant between these two titans of the 80's computer scene in 1986 which led to Sinclair's computers being sold to Alan Sugar. Sheding light on these titans of the home computer age, "Together in Electric Dreams" is a fitting celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Spectrum's launch and of a time when Britain was briefly at the centre of the global home computer boon.

To be performed at the Lass O'Gowrie in July as part of the very first Greater Manchester Fringe...

A idea in the planning at The Lass for the anniversary of those 8-bits and we need some help

Heres the message

Quote
Evening,

I'm researching something for the Summer to tie in with the 30th anniversary of the Spectrum and I'm particularly interested in the synamic between Sir Clive and Lord Sugar around the takeover period of Spectrium computers in the mid 80's.

There's the odd bit and bob on youtube but I'm struggling to find anything substantive. Does anyone recall any interviews or comentary in the magazines? Have there been any biographies or books? All help gratefully received at garethkavanagh 'at' hotmail.com.

Cheers

Gareth

GENERAL RETRO CHIT CHAT / Loading speccy/C64 games off a MP3/Cd?
« on: October 03, 2011, 01:39:28 AM »
Yup I seem to only come back when I want to ask a techy question

Here it is.
Loading a Spectrum/C64 game off a MP3 or CD is it just the same as doing it off a tape?(But with select track and play)

And anyone got a batch of them I can "lend"
we have loads of tapes but its a pain for people to go threw them

HARDWARE/SYSTEMS DISCUSSION / Speccy problems
« on: June 18, 2011, 11:14:23 PM »
I was doing a audit/testing of all the systems at The Lass and found that the ZX Spectrum's that we have have "Problems" they show garbled garbage on the screen.
I say "They" as there are two of them. Any one know any fix for them? We kinda need them working for In Da 80s
There is also a Speccy +2  128k (tape) that wont read tapes. It trys to load them, but don't go anywhere.
Again is it a easy fix?

Or know anywhere that I can get them fixed *Hint hint*

Hi there,

You will need to download and burn DreamShell and run it in your DC in order to boot files from the SD card, as in this vid: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2jwrncuY-Tc

If you want to run DC ISOs, it is possible, but some games run at low framerates due to the transfer speed of the serial port being fairly low. Again, there are videos o this on Youtube.

The site that created the necessary software is (a) in Russian and (b) down at the moment, although there are many other places online where it can be downloaded from. Although £15 isn't much, I would still suggest doing a little bit of online research before buying an adapter.
I am after something along these lines to save on Disc burning and have a load of games at my disposal (I say "my" Im thinking more for the Computer Club)
The frame rate drop he mentions is a bit of a worry and there is mentioned a internal one anyone know of anyone that can make a inside one and how much?
