Hi ! :)

I am wanting to buy an Apple MacBook Air 11" - 4 GB - 64GB in the near future for basic game port development, surfing etc and wondered if a price tag of £700-750 was reasonable for even a quailty used or fairly new one ?

Cheers,

Alex. :)

Office Worker on Android ...

Office Worker Greg grew tired of the daily grind and needed a change, help him collect various items and solve the ultimate puzzle to get through the week and find devine happiness.

The aim of the game is to collect all of the Objects for each day of the week and also collect a Jigsaw piece. As you progress through the week the Jigsaw is slowly pieced together.

Levels and Objects to collect :

- Level 1 ( Monday ) : Post Room ( 10 Letters )
- Level 2 ( Tuesday ) : Filing Room ( 10 Folders )
- Level 3 ( Wednesday ) : Finance ( 10 Bonds )
- Level 4 ( Thursday ) : I.T. ( 10 Compact Discs )
- Level 5 ( Friday ) : Reception ( 10 Pens )

From Level 3 ( Wednesday ) : Finance to Level 5 ( Friday ) : Reception you are able to collect Paper Clips and Shoot them at an End Level Boss and other Characters in the game. Along the way you can collect Biscuits and Cakes to increase your Energy Levels after being hit. Some Levels may require a bit of thought, but are completable. Level 5 ( Friday ) : Reception may prove to be tricky, Shooting Paper Clips at the Reception Staff will encourage them to throw you the Collectable Object ( Pen ) that you require. Study each Level and patterns of the People or Objects, in doing this you will soon able to complete each day and hopefully the whole week !

Controls :

Use 'Arrows' to Move, 'Green Button' to Jump and 'Red Button' to Fire ( Paper Clips ) when the ability is available.

Title Screen :

You can toggle the 'Music' and 'Sound Effects' by tapping them, when you do so, the wording will change from 'YELLOW' ( Active ) to 'GRAY' ( Inactive ).
'Tap' the screen where it says 'TAP TO START' and the game will begin.

'Back' and 'Home Button' - This will quit the game.

During intermediate screens use the 'Arrow' icon or 'Tap' the screen to proceed.

GENERAL RETRO CHIT CHAT / Raspberry Pi : SD Card problems
« on: July 04, 2012, 06:27:33 PM »
Hi ! :)

I have my Raspberry Pi now, but seem to be having problems booting it up with the SD Card I am using.

I have used Win32 Disk Imager to write 'Debian Sqeeze' to a 'deolux' 16 GB SDHC card. It boots and then just sits there, no login or command prompt appears.

Is it the SD Card ? Can anyone recommend an SD Card or size to use or even have one spare ? Or am I doing something else wrong ?

Many thanks ! ;)

Alex. :)

Hi ! :)

I now have a website for : Alex Aris Games [ www.alexarisgames.co.uk ]

It is basic at the moment, but I hope to populate it with more games and information from the history of my work over the coming weeks / months. You will notice that Shapes Mindorama is proudly placed on the main index page, this is intended to catch a bit of web traffic if people are passing by with an additional link to my first website : [ www.arisfamily.co.uk/alex ] where most of my current and earlier work is placed.

Please feel free to place links on your wesbites and spread the word, it would be very much appreciated ! :)

Thanks !

The world is full of shapes and a jigsaw has pieces that form a puzzle. Shapes Mindorama where Every Shape Has a Shadow is a twist on the ancient game of 'Tanagrams'. Simply 'Select' a 'Blue' 'Shape' and place it on the corresponding 'Shadow', whilst you are against a 'Timer'. Points will be awarded for each correctly placed 'Shape' and for each level completed.

There are 10 levels in each one of the five stages. Your progression won't be saved until you complete a stage.

CODING AREA / How do you store a High Score Value ?
« on: April 15, 2012, 06:07:11 PM »
Hi ! :)

I have a score variable that equals to a lastscore variable ( global ).

score = 12345
lastscore = score

This works fine, however I am trying to add the lastscore to a lasthighsc variable and this figure is being forgotten once the game is replayed. Surely, storing lasthighsc variable shouldn't clear itself ?

Cheers,

Alex. :)

Hi ! :)

I am working on an Android game for RCM, which I am hoping to finish soon. The game has been designed on GameMaker:Studio ( beta ) which allows any project to be exported to PC, HTML5, C++, iOS and Android. The game will be initially available on PC, HTML5 and Android. Each export module for GameMaker:Studio is $200. On it release ( hopefully very soon ), I will have access to the PC, HTML5 and Android export features.

So for the time being, here is a video teaser of what I have so far ...

http://youtu.be/IxFKPQIZmfY

For those that have noticed the RCM Logo in the background has the www address taken out, its not deliberate, just a cosmetic design for the backdrop. The website and plenty other RCM promo goodness will flow from this mini-game once completed.

Also ... Would anyone like to do some Music and Sound Effects for this game ? MP3 for music and Wav for Sound Effects ?

Thanks, Alex. :)

FOR SALE / WANTED / WANTED: Apple Mac Laptop
« on: March 08, 2012, 09:05:50 PM »
Hi ! :)

I am looking for an Apple Mac Laptop for myself that could potentially be used in conjunction with GameMaker:Studio by YoYoGames.

It must be able to run with the following specs :

Intel Mac, running Mac OS Leopard v10.5 or Snow Leopard v10.6.

Being a novice with Apple Macs, what is the best price for a second hand one or ( brave question ) has anyone got one I can borrow longterm ?

Also, would a spec like this on eBay be suitable ?
