FOR SALE / WANTED / Re: Various Stuff For Sale

I'm interested the Xbox 1.  Any chance you could increase the size of the hard disk if I paid a bit more?

Cheers...

For me a big part of 'keeping it real' isn't just the accuracy of the processing, it's also the controls and screen (resolution/frequency etc.)

If anyone ever came up with a device that emulated lots of different hardware (the Chameleon is on it's way towards this by the way) then I'd suggest it'd need to have the capability to drive LOADS of different resolutions and frequencies along with the a user configurable joystick/keyboard/peripheral port that users can buy converters for.  i.e. so you can plug a SNES pad into a converter which then plugs into the device (USB maybe?).

I'd also see a need for a super CRT TV/Monitor in the fullness of time that can display a HUGE array of frequencies so that we could just plug the new hardware emulator into it and use the native resolutions for the device we're emulating.

I've just pledged support - the first time I've given any money to a Kickstarter.
That Fighting Fantasy film looks interesting actually - I've still got my collection of books on my shelf!
Now I've got a little boy, they aren't going anywhere.  ;D

I was thinking of bringing my iCade with my iPad version of MAME4All.

Worth it do you think?

GENERAL RETRO CHIT CHAT / Re: Help with using DOSBOX
« on: October 28, 2012, 05:06:18 PM »
Have you tried using a front end to configure things?  Makes life SOOO much easier.

The two that I'd recommend are DFend Reloaded for Windows and Boxer for Mac.  The links are http://dfendreloaded.sourceforge.net/ and http://boxer.washboardabs.net/ respectively.

From my experience of using DFend Reloaded it'll be quite easy to get your current F:\ drive working as a drive within DosBox.
If you get really stuck even after trying a front end then let me know which operating system you're using and I might be able to provide more help.

GAMING . . . / Re: New C64. Where to start?
« on: October 28, 2012, 10:58:00 AM »
I'm just about to sell my (barely used) C64 Chameleon if you're interested in buying it.
Not sure if you're familiar with it but effectively it's both a multi-cart type of device (plays tape, disk and cartridge games) and a stand-alone C64 (or speccy or Amiga etc. if you add those firmwares in too).

It's a little yellow box that you plug in your C64, insert an SD card into and then play whatever games and programs you want.  It does SOOO much more than that too so if you're interested in more than C64 gaming then this is an awesome bit of kit.

Click http://www.vesalia.de/e_chameleon.htm for more information.  They go for £160ish plus delivery but if you're interested then let me know and we can sort something out.  :)

HARDWARE/SYSTEMS DISCUSSION / Re: BBC Domesday Computer repair log
« on: September 21, 2012, 10:29:48 AM »
A lot of it goes over my head but I do love reading these repair logs (and also ones for old arcade machines).
It really highlights the need for RCM to keep these machines alive as long as possible (and for good, accurate, non-HLE emulators).

Keep 'em coming!  :)

My brother lives in Raunds so I'm round there quite often.  Nice enough area and not too far from the A45 so you can easily quickly get onto the M1 for a trip to the RCM headquarters.

Hi Scott.

Does that mean that you're from round these parts (I'm in Northampton typing this right now)?

I used to have an RM Nimbus at school when I was young and although I don't remember your software I do remember the Doomsday device (massive optical media) being a massive deal.  Remember those?

OFF TOPIC / Re: The joy of Pi
« on: August 31, 2012, 02:17:57 PM »
It really does need a beefier PSU.  I'm using my Kindle one at the moment.  Can't remember what amps it needs but it's more than a USB port can really supply (especially if you're then using the USB ports on the Pi itself).

That's really neat! Thanks for the heads up.

Great that it plays all sorts of formats from one app.   ;D

I have both the latest Ultimate II and the Chameleon and while the Chameleon is the better device of the two the compatibility is still not quite there compared with the Ultimate II.

The Ultimate II has to have a 1541 cable between it and the IO port (where you'd normally plug in the 1541) so it seems to act just like a 1541 in every way.

The Chameleon doesn't need this and does have an easier to use and more powerful UI but there are some games that just don't load correctly.  Enough for me to stick with the Ultimate II for gaming (for now anyway).
