HARDWARE/SYSTEMS DISCUSSION / Re: your latest Retro computer purchases
« on: October 03, 2010, 11:53:25 AM »
Yesterday i won an auction for an Amstrad 6128 plus. This system is quite rare here in Germany. It comes together with a monochrome monitor, manuals, 15 disks and 3 carts. The carts are the system cartridge with Burning Rubber, Klax and Super Pinball Magic.
Well, it's better to say that i don't won the auction ... it has a BIN-price: 38 Euros (~33 GBP). I think it's a really good price for this system, right ? ;) OK, it has a broken disk drive, but i think it's only the belt (and this can quickly be replaced ;))

Ah, the CD32 ... i actually need a keyboard for it or better, a SX1 or SX32 ;)
I have a game for it, called "Mag!!!". An economy simulation where you manage an editorial office (german informations, but with pictures, here).

It's nice gameplay, but the CD32-version has one problem: You can't save, so it's not really made for the CD32 (even it's advertised for it) ;)

@Panther: Thx for the links. I'll definitely check it out tonight (after i mod my Spectrum+ to video output ;))

And a big Welcome to athurart09, Greetings to Down Under :) What retro systems do you have in general in Australia ? More the british systems like Spectrum and Acorn or more the american systems like Atari and C64 ?

GENERAL RETRO CHIT CHAT / Re: X Arcade working with Emulators?

How have you connected the X-Arcade to the PC ? With USB or with keyboard-cable ?
For the keyboard-version you can connect the X-Arcade, start a text editor and move the stick/press the buttons. Now some text should be written in the text editor, because the X-Arcade emulates a keyboard in this version.
I don't know exactly how the USB version works. But i think it should be recognized as a normal joystick and can be found in the control panel->game controllers. Here you can check if all the buttons and sticks are ok.
In MAME you can then map the sticks and buttons to the control layout, that's it.
In my version there is also a switch at the back side of the X-Arcade. With it, you can switch between different button layouts.

That's no problem, you can use the X-Arcade with any type of emulators.
I own the old version, the "Tank Stick" without USB. It simply emulates keystrokes, so it's more a keyboard. With the adapters you can also use it on consoles. A nice stick, but if you don't need the 2-Player support you'll also find better sticks on the market (Hori Real Arcade Pro, MadCatz Street Fighter Tournament)

unfortunally i sold the SVI 318 shortly after i bought it. It was really a nice system, i also liked the joystick that was built within the system. I got it for a good price and sold it for double ;) But this was in the 80s, so long time ago ;)

Thanks for the warm welcome :)

Well the spectrum +3 works well, here the only problem is that it don't boot from disk 2 (but i think it's not a problem, it's a feature ;)). Actually the only problem is the Amstrad GX400 that don't work. But here i try to clean all the contacts again and again ;)

Soooo, after meeting some of you at the Eurocon i thought it's time to sign to the forums :)

My name is Thomas, 40 years old and living in Germany (so please excuse if my english sometimes is more "germish" ;)

After playing Pong the first time (when it was the most modern console ;)) i was infected with the virus. After the Atari 2600 i got my first own computer, the Atari 800XL. My first 2 things for the computer were a Donkey Kong cartridge and a BASIC-book, so i had both, gaming and programming. Over the years more and more computers came, so the SVI 318, C64, Atari ST, PCs and so on. Also the console collection started to grow.

Today i have some main interest. One of them are exotic systems. So i have some exotic consoles like the Pioneer Laseractive, Victor Wondermega, the NEC-series (also the PC-FX), the Fm Towns Martay and much more. But not only the retro systems, i also play with modern systems like the PS3 and Xbox360.

My second interests are retro computers. Here mainly japanese systems, so actually i own some FM Towns systems and a Sharp X68000. Since last month i'm also a Sinclair-User, so i actually also have a ZX81, a Spectrum+ and a Spectrum +3. Now i only need more space im my rooms for more systems ;)

At the Eurocon i felt in love with another system: The Jupiter Ace. Who was there know what i mean ;)
I programmed FORTH for many years, so the Jupiter Ace is THE system for me ;) Too bad that this system is hard to find  :'(

OK, that's from me. I'm looking forward to see you all at the forums and hopefully at the Eurocon in Hamburg next year :)
