I got in the post today the cable i hoped to modify and it doesn't even work properly.. when you look at it the pins look very flat.. and although its a very tight fit in the back of the dreamcast just nothing.. you occasionally get a flicker and then just black. I have tried to carefully bend the pins when has made me get almost the right picture but it looks very pale and occasionally goes ok before going pale again.

I hope my cables just faulty ! but as it is its un-usable with the picture randomly changing colour.. coming back and going again!

should i try and bend the pins a little more before sending it back?

GENERAL RETRO CHIT CHAT / ibm thinkpad 560x hdd issue
« on: September 17, 2009, 05:56:12 PM »

a friend gave me the laptop to look at and stick 98 on it ! i agreed and said the cheapest way would be to get the hdd out of it and shuv it in my desktop and shuv the 98 cd on the hdd and boot it from dos :-) but... upon connecting the 2.5inch drive to my pc via a old adaptor from maplins it started screaming sci-fi 'alien raygun' noises at me ! 'peeooo' 'puchhhooo' i rang him up and explained i'd probably have to buy him a replacement drive.. at my expense.. and well.. i shuved it back in the laptop and apart from a few bad sectors it booted ok and no bad noises as such.

any idea's why, and also why before the sci-fi noises my bios wouldn't detect it?

the drives dated 98 itself and is a ibm 4 gig drive ! really want to sort this for him and also not have to buy a new drive

GENERAL RETRO CHIT CHAT / Dreamcat Steering Wheel Accelorator not working
« on: September 02, 2009, 10:00:18 PM »

mucking about with it was what blew the fuse in the dreamcast, i have now sorted that but still am not sure why the accelorate paddle isn't working. the break paddle is fine.

Does anyone know any obvious checks i can do. i have most tools and a multimeter if needed.

cheers for any help

Just a small update for you guys!

If the break works then that means the ground line and the +5 volts line are fine so i supose i should check the right paddle signal line as far as it will go

small update! its 3:35am here ! i've had enough for one.. morning? but i've checked the lines from the inner board socket to the wire on the potentionmeter and its connected fine.. so i can only guess something was damaged when it shorted out.. i don't know for sure it ever worked anyway as bought it and took it to bits a year or so ago before i had a dreamcast. I suppose i could buy another wheel and switch the board and see if that's what is the problem. but A,B, +, -, start, wheel left and right and the break paddle all work ! just the accelerator that won't ! damn annoying really.

OFF TOPIC / Redecorating Bedroom - RETRO :D
« on: July 27, 2009, 07:16:51 PM »

Looking to redecorate my room this summer and am bored of the 'intelligent/sophisticated' look so am going with a retro gaming theme  ;D

I have a few idea's from different sites .. like the Nintendo zapper lamp etc.

Any idea's?

I'm trying to find a nice bed set too but no luck so far.

Wasn't sure where I should post so hope this is right.

I would just like to say a MASSIVE thank you to the organisers and supporters of the event, as well everyone who made me so welcome on the Saturday.  :)

I really enjoyed seeing the different consoles and also different views on the best console ever.

After an entire month of weekends away I certainly won't be going anywhere in August  :'( but am definitely looking forward to coming to another event like this soon  ;D
