OFF TOPIC / eBay stories - what went wrong
« on: December 08, 2009, 11:49:46 AM »
eBay, many say "stay away" but i've always liked it.

My new thinkpad arrived today, upon opening the box something didn't look right but i continued anyway. i un-wrapped the laptop powered it up and everything seemed ok, then i went for the AC adaptor.. it was a 2 pin plug, then i look at the manual... its German!

can anyone see in this auction a note saying 'its German? I quote "Localisation: English". at least the laptop is English, but what am i meant to do with all the random German junk that come with it.

Hi,

Just had a stupid thought... I recently RGB modded my SMS2, can i plug my Amstrad monitor into it and get a picture? I also hear using an Arcade VGA with the right cable would allow a PC to connect to it.. what resolution would you have to drop to to be able to use it?

thanks

nice one  ;D

again thanks for sorting that out ! i could have taken days and days looking at that website.

Could you explain a bit more about the 28 pin spdif chip? on the website it has a lot of ground and 5 volt lines flying about underneith the chip, do they have to be there? would double sided PCB be easier?

thanks

I have attached an image of what you've told me, could you please add in the transistor and confirm that it is correct.

thanks for your time and help in explaining what was needed.

its not set to 'test screen' is it? and if it isn't set it to test screen!

All VHS players I have seen have a test switch on the back that should bring up a black and white lined image - could be used to test the VHS is outputting an image.

Component cable, 250gb hdd, try and stop the fan from being so loud, mod chip, xbmc and that EnigmaX + mod chip.

Which mod chip will do what I want ^ so I can order that this weekend, and where do I get the EnigmaX from?

cool  ;D

I have BLACK on PS2, is the xbox version better? they should really make a black 2 - be way better than modern warfare 2 ::)

I think I would like an SMS1 as my SMS2 just doesn't seem to be as good as I imagine the original to be.

I currently own

PS1,2,3    Xbox,  SMS2, Sega Saturn Mk2, Sega Dreamcast,  NES (no power brick), N64, and also own a MAME machine (moon patrol copy).

Definitely looking into hard modding the Xbox, and getting a component cable, will i still get 1080i through a scart to component? as my tv has AV1 as RGB, Component, S-video, and normal scart.

cool  ;D you should prioritise the mame cam, they're really fun to build

Should I seriously soft mod it? I did consider, and then decide to hold off for a second opinion.

Yeh, £30 does sound a little high, but it came with all the leads and a crystal controller, and I have 2 months cover (now probably voided) as I have opened it up to have a peek inside. apart from on the fan there wasn't a spec of dust inside and it looks to have almost never been used.

I don't intend to pay for xbox live just yet, but if I soft mod I assume I won't be able to get online.

which guide would you recommend for soft modding.

PS I will be using this purely for games only, I hear you can run games off the hard drive?

Today I decided as my birthday is rather soon, I would treat myself to a Crystal Xbox I had been looking at in a shop. It was £30 and came with RCA lead, power lead and crystal S controller. I'm not sure if that was a good or bad deal? (anyone know?) but am rather happy with it.

If you could, what consoles would you get?

PS Does anyone have any hints for good Xbox games?  ;D

I had a great uncle that was gased at Ypres, and both my grandfathers fought in WWII.

Its good to see we still honour our dead.
