GENERAL RETRO CHIT CHAT / Re: Amstrad FD1 - Advice please

No noise and dim red light is normal.

You need a DDI-1 to connect it to a 464, and just a ribbon cable with appropriate connectors for a 664/6126.

HARDWARE/SYSTEMS DISCUSSION / Re: Atom power supply

Unfortunately no. That type has an OD of 5.5mm.

Hmm, that's probably why my atoms have a couple of wires soldered on and a disk drive connector attached.

The barrel plug is 5mm external 2.5mm internal.

They're hard to find. Maplin do one (L49AY) but the barrel's short. It works but ideally you'll need the 11 or 14 mm barrel length.

Will the maplin HH63T not be ok? The maplin "long" connectors seem to be 14mm.

Its the same circuit as the original Atom Colour card, its just that they are so rare they are a bit hard to get a hold of :)
So this - http://www.stairwaytohell.com/temporary/atom_pcb_atomcolourboard.gif
Any pics of PCB design, does it match the original - http://www.xs4all.nl/~fjkraan/comp/atom/colourCard600x369.jpg ?

FOR SALE / WANTED / Re: Wanted Amstrad 6128

A seperate 12V supply, which is only used for the disk drive, will work.

The 6128 has a flying lead which plugged into the monitor, this was the 12v connection, the 5V was the same. Beware the 12V connection barrel is positive with the centre pin being GND, be careful with any wiring.

The monitor connection will work fine.

Im looking for a 6128 just the computer really as i can use the monitor from my 464, has anyone go one?

The 6128 needs a 12V supply which the original 464 monitors didn't provide.

A single day ticket is £6.00 pre event (£7.50 on the door).
If I buy a one day ticket, do I need to specify which day?
I want a ticket, just not sure which day I'll be able to go yet.

It works very similarly to a Vectrex... except on an Oscilloscope, you can't turn the beam off.

Most analog scopes have a Z input on the back you can use to turn off the beam in X-Y mode.

You can have a go using just yout soundcard and a scope - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1eNjUgaB-g
