Amstrad CPC464 monitor specs? what can be connected to it?
« on: December 05, 2009, 06:18:43 PM »
Hi,

Just had a stupid thought... I recently RGB modded my SMS2, can i plug my Amstrad monitor into it and get a picture? I also hear using an Arcade VGA with the right cable would allow a PC to connect to it.. what resolution would you have to drop to to be able to use it?

thanks

You can indeed plug a CPC monitor into an SMS, assuming you've correctly wired up the chip outputs through 200uF capacitors and 150(ish) ohm resistors.

Not sure what you mean by "Arcade VGA" though. If its adhering to a VGA standard, then should do at least 640x480@60Hz. If you push it, it might do 800x600@60Hz too, though it'll probably flicker if its not able to handle SuperVGA resolutions.

I'm assuming when you say "Arcade VGA", you mean one of those fancy graphics cards that can output 15kHz scan rates?
