Which browser should I use?
« on: May 05, 2010, 10:28:00 PM »
Hi all,

Been having weird problems with Mozilla Firefox 3.6.3 not wanting to display pages ... getting 'server not found' messages and long delays, despite having a decent connection and my other internet applications (MSN Messenger, download manager etc.) not being affected.

I have to keep refreshing for the browser to load pages, usually it happens on RCM forum and RG forum but has happened with my Yahoo Mail and other websites.
I don't get this problem with Internet Explorer 8 (although I actually hate IE)

I've ran an anti-virus scan and anti-spyware/anti-malware scan and it's all clean.

So, possibly looking at changing browser.
Which one should I go for? vote for your favourite please

Cheers

I've only noticed this since I 'upgraded' to Firefox version 3.6.3

Now, Google Chrome seems like an alternative, but, I don't like the way Xmarks works with Google Chrome (it's great on IE and FF)
For those who don't know what Xmarks is, it synchronises your bookmarks with an online server .... very useful!

I've been using Google Chrome since last year. Not had any problems with it and pages seem to load faster than Internet Explorer.

I see no Windows version ;) although my Linux box will be fine with it.

Are there any adblocking extensions (like AdBlock Plus on Firefox) for Chrome?

Shame you're having problems with FF, i don't appear to have the same symptoms with 3.6.3 apart from the RCM shoutbox issue which went away after clearing cookies etc. All other sites I visit are o.k

For me, I'll always stick with FF, especially because of the ad-block plugin which makes surfing so much more enjoyable!

...but, if i had to choose an alternative then prob Opera.

Well, I was speaking to a mate of mine on MSN and he's having the same issues with FF 3.6.3 as well :o

Chrome for me too....Used it for ages now.

Only ever had a couple of sites that didn't like it and they were just random ones a while ago

Firefox is really starting to annoy me recently, just locks up for no reason, takes ages to use DNS on PC resume despite the fact that I can do lookups from the command line. Time for me to look elsewhere I think.

a lot of people seem to be having problems with newer firefox versions recently. Fortunately for myself, im not one of them and will stick with it for now as I fear change.
Should the time come though I shall be switching to chrome as Ive used it before and really like it. Hopefully Mozilla will get things sorted if only for their own sake

I switched to Chrome a while ago and find it quick and easy to use, I like the mulki screen choice when opening a new tab (like safari on the mac).

I also switched from firefox to chrome a few months ago and have been really happy with it. I find it works very quickly, more so than IE and Firefox and I really like the search/address bar feature. My only gripe with it ( and this is a petty one) is that it doesn't have the "are you sure you want to close" feature when multiple tabs are open as I am useless and tend to close one tab by mistake and end up shutting down all my browsing.

If you open a new tab....after closing one by mistake...you shold get a recent closed tabs option about half way down the page.
