Hi Everyone,

My names Ralph.  Just came across this fantastic site.

My first computer was the Acorn Atom which I built from the kit.  I still have the machine which is in working order, I remember spending many hours programming in machine code on the Atom.  Like many I moved into the beebs but then onto an ST.  I still have both of these machines as well.

I'd like to wish RCM all the very best in preserving what is a very important piece of history.

Best Regards,

Ralph (aka Skyperion)

Welcome Ralph.
Glad you've found RCM ... we're all a nice bunch here.

I'm intrigued .... I've never had an Acorn Atom, what games and/or software would you recommend to someone getting into the Atom for the first time?

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the welcome!

I found your site from a link on Stairwaytohell, the link was advertising your open day.  I have quite a passion for emulators, in particular those of my old machines, so I quite often look in on Stairwaytohell.

I wish I could come along to your open day but it's a bit to far for me to travel (I'm down in Kent).  I hope it goes well though.

I am due to go through my old collection of gear.  I see you take donations of games, books and magazines so if it would be useful I'll see if there is anything that might be useful for your collection.

Regards,

Ralph

Ralph,
We love donations! We do buy stuff but donations have been fast and furious over the last 15 months!
We have now reached almost 4.5 million hits too! We have members across the globe (literally!) that support us by posting on here.

Hi Woody,

Thanks for the welcome!

Now that's a question and a half.  I recall getting a rudimentary flight sim I think it was a sim of the 747 and may have been by Bug Byte.  I did have this running on one of my emulators not so long ago.  It's quite a bit removed from FSX but was fasinating none-the-less.  At the time game play was everything.  I also remember a 3d asteroids type game which was quite good for its time.  I'll see what I can find in my loft and post the result's.

Best regards,

Ralph

P.s I've managed to find the original manual for the 747 sim.  I'll see if I can post some scans and screen shots.

Cheers for the info Ralph.

I'm a big fan of anything from early primitive computing to 90s powerhouses.
These days, I'm particularly interested in Acorn, Amstrad, Sinclair, Commodore and many early 8-bit systems but I still have a massive love for my Amiga though, as it was the first (& only) 16-bit machine I had as a kid.

I noticed you didn't mention the Atari in that list :) Does that mean you no longer want your 65XE?

lol :D
I forgot to mention Atari ... shame on me.
and no, I will NOT get rid of my 65XE ... it's a lovely system. If anything, I want to get more orignal games and/or an SIO2SD for it at some point.

Worth a try  ;D

I'm sure if you made a post on AtariAge you'd get hold of a SIO2SD.

Oh, I can get hold of one easy enough .... it's the money (or lack of it) that's preventing me from getting one at the moment.
