Hi Dean, and welcome.
I tried to brows your site, but my anti-virus detects a worm virus. Anyone else having problems?

I tried just now...20:29 pm... and my virus/malware detector indicates an infected iframe on Dean's website.

Hello my name is Matt, I live & work in Bristol, I am an Electronics Engineer by trade and I attended one of your recent events just last year. I found your website via www.stairwaytohell.com when I was looking for future events to attend. My interest lies with the collection and repair of retro 8 bit machines. I have been collecting for something like 17 years now on and off in-between a major renovation project on my house.
Matt.

Hello there RetroFans!

I'm Colin, and found the forum through an email someone sent me regarding my reproduction MK14 project (http://mymk14.co.uk). I started my computing career on this device in the late 1970s, and now dabble in retro-hardware and software. Looking forwards to swapping notes with everyone else on the Forum.

*bows with respect*

I was reading that the other day and wondering how easy/cheap it would be to build such a beast. Where on earth do you get an SC/MP from?

Sadly, cost outweighs usefulness at present. Maybe in a couple of years...

Hi to all

My name is John Dalrymple, I was brought up using Acorn Electrons, BBCs, Atari ST and Commodore Amigas. I still enjoy dabbling about with retro stuff mostly via emulators.

Cheers

John

Hi Richard,

Thanks for your kind comments - it was lot of fun building it, and taught me some useful stuff like VHDL. Finding the SC/MP CPU was easy - lots of semiconductor brokers out there who know people with shelves of stuff that has been sitting there since the 1970s and before. Mostly they target long-life product sectors like aerospace, so for the right device no problem. I also got a MK14 chipset (without the MK14 itself) for a knock-down price on Ebay way back.

Have you checked out the PIC14, designed by Karen Orton? Very nice design that emulates a MK14 on a cheap PIC. Couple it with a retro-LED display, and you get something pretty close to the original, but at PIC pricing levels.

My repro was designed to be fun to play with, not cheap. But I do intend to do a cost down version, as my kids all want one. Now, all I need is the time to do it...

I'm also dabbling with 1960s mainframe parts at the moment (IBM SLT) for a bit more of a challenge, but that too is waiting having some time...

Hello John, I love emulators too! I use WinUAE (a lot!!!). I do agree you can't beat the real thing but . . . emulators are good! :)
Welcome on board mate - hope you enjoy your stay! ;)
