Atari ST games ..
« on: October 19, 2008, 06:24:47 PM »
I know there's a load of Amiga owners on here but being part of the Atari Legend team (and Andy can vouch for the collection), I'm always after titles that I've not yet scanned the box artwork in and preserved (disk images as well as PDFing the manual).  So before you send them to the skip (or donate to RCM as I did with all my duplicate games), let me know first? :)

Cheers .. we've got a thread over at Atari-Forum discussing some of the extremely silly prices currently on eBay for some of the rarer titles.

Just under £200 for a copy of Ultima II ???

And his eBay shop is called "Lonely George".  With those prices, I can possibly see why!

OUCH !!

Is this the way of things to come for Retro Gamers, that we will have to pay silly prices ? I for one will miss the look of "here's another clueless nutter" when I buy an old Commodore from someone at a boot sale...

Talking Atari ST though, I've got a copy of Falcon by Spectrum Holobyte, which appeared in a Speccy lot I bought the other day (I presume the seller saw 'Spectrum' on the box!). I assume that this is quite a common title though, so of no interest ? (to you that is, not lonely George!)

Yep, got two of those in their original boxed format (wow! a duplicate that *isn't* in the hands of RCM!) unless it's a budget re-issue as I'm probably missing one of those.

No this is the original one I'm sure.

Remember playing this on the PC years ago and it was a blast to play - especially the dogfights - but I seem to remember that it used a lot of keys so took a bit of getting used to. If I had an ST I may give it a go, but unfortunately I don't.

It's nice when a few eBay buys do go your own way though ... box of 5 games turned up today including Tau Ceti.  Nothing special, as I already have a copy, but this is the American boxed version and, unlike Lonely George, I only paid a few quid for it and a few other games :)

What does the US one look like ? I've got the Speccy version of Tau Ceti in the odd shaped card box, which I've only ever seen come up on Ebay once, so I'm hanging on to it. Is the US one the same ?

I'll scan in the box artwork for Atari Legend and upload it - probably tomorrow evening now as there's a large pile of "To be done" on top of the book scanner.  Plus some C64 cassettes in front of the document scanner :)

Here's the eBay auction: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=300263023462

Heres the Speccy one...

http://retrogamescatalog.com/cgi-bin/sh000003.pl?REFPAGE=http%3a%2f%2fretrogamescatalog.com%2facatalog%2fSinclair_ZX_Spectrum_Games_Software_for_sale.html&WD=ceti%20tau&SHOP=%20&PN=ZX_Spectrum_CRL_Computer_Rentals_Ltd.html%23a2030#a2030

The box looks quite big in this photo, but in fact it's only just larger than a standard cassette case.  I'm not really that keen on the game, but love the originality of the packaging...

Been on that site before .. definitely one for a shop when a small Lotto win turns up :)  Not quite eBay prices but then again, cheap as chips compared to 'Lonely George' :)
