My Key Gaming Moments.....
« on: July 27, 2011, 08:11:59 PM »
Well i've just introduced myself on the intro section and then thought i'd share my key gaming moments over the years and am keen to know what yours are...

So here's mine: (I've tried to keep in chrono order and stated machine and my gaming moment)...

Commodore Vic 20 (nowt special)
Colecovision (donkey kong & lady bug)
Nintendo Nes (of course super mario bros)
Amstrad CPC464 (dizzy)
Nintendo Super Famicom (super ghouls n ghosts / actraiser / gradius 111)
Nintendo 64 (goldeneye & Zelda “ocarina of time”)
PC Engine (R-Type)
Sega Master system (nowt special)
Sega Megadrive (gynoug)
Sega Saturn (sega rally)
Sega Dreamcast (soul calibre)
Nintendo Game Cube (nowt special)
Nintendo Wii (nowt special)
PS2 (nowt special)
Xbox 360 (nowt special)
PS3 (use really as a media player only)

(When i say nowt special, i guess from memory nothing jumps out)

I guess if i was going to pick my ultimate moments it would be Super Ghouls n Ghosts on the s-famicom (wow spent some serious hrs on that!) and golden eye/zelda on the 64, both awesome gaming moments for me.....

Which makes sense as over the years i have always favoured nintendo over any other system.....

Anyway i've bored you all enough.....

Sega Master system (nowt special)

Oh come now. Sonic 1 & 2 for the SMS are some of the best written conversions out there.... I'm amazed they got a poor Z80 to do all that.

Sega Dreamcast (soul calibre)

Ah. Have you met Dave (PhoenixTLB)? He might just challenge you there....

Most notable moments for me have got to be;

ZX81 - the first time Forty Niner loaded, and I saw a ZX81 produce Hi-Res graphics, absolutely stunning !!
ZX Spectrum - Has to be Manic Miner, played that for hours and hours.
Amiga - The polished finish of GODS, what a great game.
PC - Magic carpet, awesome at the time.

ZX81 - playing 'Catacombs' and still playing it to this day! :)
ZXSpectrum - loading 'Space Raiders' for the first time after a period of several hours waiting! :(
ZXSpectrum - playing 'Manic Miner' and 'Jet Set Willy' for the first time and also meeting Matthew Smith! :)
BBC - playing Elite for the first time and thinking 'how big?'
BBC - playing the rude version of Frak!
C64 - hearing/seeing 'Rambo' load for the first time . . . ;)
C64 - playing the game 'Wizball' and actually finishing it! :)
Atari 800XL - seeing 'Drop Zone' and actually admitting it is faster than the C64 version! :(

If my aging memory serves me:-

Getting Astrobirds to finally load and play on my Acorn Atom

Planetoids on the BBC - I can still put my 8 fingers in the required positions plus thumbs on the spacebar for reverse direction ofc

Elite on the BBC - a real milestone - knew I was getting it for Christmas, couldn't wait - played it constantly then when I got a disc drive, bought the disc version

The Pawn on the Amiga 500, real hi-res introduction screen, very weird, very hard puzzles though

Shadow of the Beast on the Amiga 500, loved the parallax scrolling, hated the overlong dying sequence before being able to replay

Great Giana Sisters on the Amiga 500, great music and gameplay, think it got banned for being too Super Mario Brotherish

Xenon 2 on the Amiga 500, cool music, again, nice parallax scrolling

Loads of PC and console games.  Now I seem to get more fun from playing games like Citadel on the BBC than say World of Warcraft  ;D

Sooo many, but he's a short list now that my memory is shot to pieces.

BBC - Elite - playing and demoing to customers in a computer shop i used to hang out at most evenings/weekends (owned by friends parents) and due to my 'sales skills' was given a beeb computer for free...and Elite of course..and Mr Ee. I may have wet myself ;D

C64 - Ghostbusters - did he just speak (jaw drops).
C64 - Completing Bruce Lee
C64 - Finishing Action Biker/Clumsy Colin
C64 - Blown away by the speech in Jonah Barrington Squash
C64 - Getting all those tape games that refused to load once i'd brought myself a new Mill 'Load-It' Datasette...was like Christmas day
C64 - Massive 'olympic' style gaming events with friends playing the Epyx games series. <Can you beat 17 barrels on Barrel Jumping (World Games?)
C64 - Double Dragon...so excited when this was loading....nuff said!
C64 - Finishing Dragons Lair after many weeks of writing down and learning the sequences.

Spectrum 128 - Target Renegade on my mates speccy and wishing my C64 version was as good

Amiga - First Amiga game i saw/played - Defender of the Crown. Jaw dropping at the time....one of those 'want one' moments.
Amiga - Linking up and playing Stunt Car Racer on two Amiga's for the first time
Amiga - Another World (intro) wooo, play it again!
Amiga - Flashback - one of my all time fav's but sad once i'd completed it.

DOS - Completing Prince of Persia
DOS - Doom2 lan gaming....way too much fun with a shotgun and so many great times spring to mind with friends.

Snes - Completing Super Mario World

3D0 - Need for Speed - is that smoke transparent  :o

Arcade - Daytona - holy mother of 10p's
Arcade - Completing Wonderboy with one credit

Ps1 - a whopping £60 on release day, but WipeOut was worth it. Picked it up again for £1 via Flicky at one of the RCM events.

Oric - Karl introducing me to a little gem of a game - Defence Force
