Soft Modding XBox / PS2
« on: May 04, 2012, 12:41:37 PM »
Just has lots of fun soft modding my original Xbox and PS2. Have to say the Xbox is class, now used as a media centre with xbmc and emulators run really well too, well chuffed, if anyone wants help on soft modding their Xbox let me know. The fact you can FTP directly to it is very cool.

I have also soft modded my PS2 as well with free mcboot, not quite as cool as the Xbox. Soon I will be add a hard disk and load backup of my games from it (once i get a network adaptor) as my laser is on its last legs and barely plays anything. I have games loading off usb stick too but as its only USB 1.1 painfully slow .

Again if anyone wants any help let me know....

Have you managed to install a larger capacity hdd on the Xbox? That's the tricky bit

yeah would be nice to put in a 500gb disk or something, I have seen the instructions and doesnt seem too tricky though have it all setup nice at the moment and can't be arsed to break it lol ! Would be nice to get some HD output with component cable too so I can stream MKVs properly ... again can't be arsed ! Both on my ever growing list of things to do .

Have you soft-modded it Levs?  You'll need a memory card, a particular copy of Splinter Cell and about 10 minutes :)

Then you can FTP the XBMC files to your Xbox and install it.  Or, if someone has done an .ISO file of it, you can burn it off and install it off a disc.

Never done a soft-mod HDD upgrade although I think Andy has done.

I'm not down until the August event Levs, so I can help you via here but I'm sure Andy's got the memory card + Splnter Cell required.  If not, I'll dig mine out and post it.

Ah .. oops.  Thought you'd done them via soft-mods.

I'll try and find a spare Xbox memory card then Levs and I'll send it down.  Keep an eye open for the Classics release of Splinter Cell (mine's the double-disc edition) in your local Game / charity shops.  You'll need that to use the hacked saved game on the memory card.

Find a cheap memory card somewhere Levs as you'll need it to copy the saved games from my card onto it.

Think the Xbox ones only came in the one size?  There's the 'stock' ones which don't have a USB connection and there's the Datel ones which did have one so you could copy files across to it.

If I can find a spare one (which I think I have), then you can just copy the saved game files from my card to yours and keep hold of my memory card until the next time I show up.
