Sinclair Spectrum Vega - anyone?
« on: February 10, 2015, 08:58:03 PM »
Read about this a few weeks ago but thought I should share it, as there isn't much publicity about it right now.

A company based in Luton is in the process of designing and making (probably in limited quantities) a brand new Speccy. Well, not quite - more of a handheld plug-and-play, which looks just like a tiny Spectrum and has 1000 built-in games. They are asking for funding on IndieGogo right now, but have already raised over £150k. Sounds like a fantastic nostalgia-fest for people who haven't used a Spectrum in years. The only problem though: they would cost you £100 to pre-order, if they hadn't already sold out. Still, they are flogging 'make your own' books signed by Sir Clive Sinclair and places on the waiting list for the second production run.

Here's a link to their IndieGogo page: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/sinclair-zx-spectrum-vega

£100 seems a bit steep though, right? For that, you could easily buy a genuine Spectrum in good nick on eBay and a flash drive for it. Hopefully, in a few months when the hype around it dies down a bit the price will drop; if so I'll be first in line!

Wow Andy, I'm really jealous! You'll bring it to the RCM to show us though, right? (hint hint) :)

Being manufactured in Beeston near Nottingham as well. Not too far from RCM HQ, down the road a bit lol
