WANTED: Atari 2600 VCS Power Supply
« on: June 14, 2009, 02:05:09 PM »
Just got the console from a carboot. Came with a load of games, 6 controllers, box, instructions but no power supply. I've looked at the fitting and my multi adaptor wont do.

Does anyone have a spare one for sale?

Thanks

Just get another one with a jack plug, set it to 9 v, put it in a certain way until it is home & should work.
It only costs roughly between £2 to £4 from any shop sells these.  :)

Allready tried that but no luck. I've spoken to a few people on another forum and they say its not a good idea to do that anyway. It
can blow the power supply on the system  ???

I have managed to find a brand new original power supply for £16, so I think I'll go for that if no one here can help.

Thanks for your help though.

@Blackpanther - I would lend you one but RCM only has one between six machines :(

The PSU for the 7800 if different again so that is out too!

£16 seems a little excessive though! :(

Thanks anyway Andy.

Not in a mad rush to get one so think I'll wait till one appears on ebay for 99p!

£16 did seem expensive (I better not mention the website), but they were the only one to have one in stock.

That would be console clearance then ???
No problem making your own, just get a mono 3.5" jack from craplins
or alternatively solder in a new socket for the PSU of your choice

You just need 9v DC ay 500mA or there abouts, the 2600 is not too fussy with AC/DC volts between 7 - 12, but you will need 500mA

I do have a multi adaptor with the correct sized fitting but its not worked. Is the 3.5 jack on the Atari longer than the standard 3.5 jack?

If that makes any sense.

Don't think so. Unfortunately in my experience missing PSU=system broken :-[

I seem to remember having a similar problem about the length of the jack . . . I will try to get to the unit sometime and measure the Atari Jack and a standard jack too . . .

Not necessarily.

A friend of mine gave me an Acorn Electron with a PSU that was er.... well the casing was present... the cable was present... the transformer had somehow gone walkies....

But the Electron itself was in fine working order... once I replaced the internal PSU board with a switch-mode power supply, which I only did becauses I didn't think a hunt for an 18VAC PSU would be fruitful ;)

Just found out the Atari 3.5 Jack is a standard length.

Also just found out my multi adaptor is only 300mA, which is why its not worked  :-[
