Well, as we now have our mini event out of the way, it is time to look forward to our next event in November.
The venue and ticket prices will all remain the same as our May event.
The layout will change somewhat however, we have already spoken to Akastaff (Clive) who has already helped us out at our mini event by supplying us with 4 arcade cabs and further to this will again be supplying us with several more in November.
We will also be using a few more tables than last time too as we did actually run out of room to put several more systems on display in May. Further details will follow shortly. Tickets will be available to buy from 1st September.
If you would like to announce the event elsewhere please do let us know and try not to upset anybody who already has events 'on the go'.

Its in my diary!
Are you ok for me to put a post on my site?
-
Yes mate - of course you can put a post on there! ;)
As long as it is okay with you!
-
Andy,
I visit another forum on a regular basis (nothing retro relate in any way), do you have a banner or anything yet that i could post ?
-
Nice one! ;)
That will be coming soon - based on the artwork for the tickets.
I will make it available asap.
Andy
-

I'll be there (as always)
I know it's already been asked, but let me know when the banner is ready, and I'll do my usual 'stick it in my sig' thing along with the mandatory post that I do on nearly every retro forum there is :)
-
Myself and Rinoa will be coming to. Will purchase the tickets when I get paid :)
This time I'd like to bring a few things for people to play on (Unless woody brings everything :P ).
-
I'll definitely be coming. Please can we have the light gun with House of the Dead 2 again, whoever brought that (pretty please...)
-
I'll be there and may be bringing my young son along too :)
Is it OK to post on Amibay for you???
Gary
-
@PJ - yes mate it will be back!
@imnogeek - nice one mate - and yes it is okay to post anywhere - I just don't want people to upset other people that is all! ;)
-
Yay, count me in.
-
Will be there .. wild horses etc. etc.
Even pleaded with the guys organising the eJagfest in Germany to not make it the same weekend :)
-

You know me ;) I don't travel light :D
-
Is it also possible to buy tickets at Retro Reunited (would save on Paypal Fees)?
I have placed an sticky announcement in Events on YakYak.
I have also noticed there is no post about this on the RetroGamer forums yet.
Is anyone staying up the night before? I just wondered if there was gonna be any meetups (CURRY!) the night before, or perhaps anyone would be interested in going for a meal or hanging out a bit longer after the event?
-

I'll be up for hanging on after the event.
The thing is, it's quite close for me (only about 30 mins - 1hr away) so won't be stopping over, but I'm alright for going for a curry/Chinese/whatever afterwards.
-
Last one we set up Saturday and went to the pub for a drink afterwards, would be happy to help and drink again :)
-
I'll be about on the preceeding Saturday. Not sure if I'll have the energy for a meetup after assisting in the set up of 50-odd machines...
-- Richard
-
No idea what my plans are for getting there as of yet so more than likely travelling down on the Saturday to see my mate and then he'll drop us off in the morning of the event as he's about 10-15 miles away (when he's moved house).

Well let us know because if your going down on the Sunday we can give you a lift there and back if you want.

I've sen you a PM.
-
cool, I'll be there.
Can I bring a very special Atari 600XL please
-
@ StarshipUK - Wondering if your 1541 Ultimate will be making an appearance? Was hoping to take another good look at it.
-
If the RCM put one of their Commodore 64s out then yes, I will bring it with a Kensington Lock attached ;)
It is even better now I have got a 2GB SD card with the whole Gamebase 64 v5 Games collection on it. That is over 19,000 games!
I am now just creating another 2GB SD card for it containing just about every demo ever made:

and http://0451384732.pp.fi/Party.rar
-
do you need to bring something to this event or can you just come and play on all the different stuff? are the arcades included in the ticket price or do you pay per go?
-
Hello Andy313 - you don't need to bring anything and the ticket price allows you to have a play on all of the machines except the arcade cabs - they will be on 10/20p a go.
Andy
-
@starshipUK - of course there will be a C64 there! ;) Please do bring along your 1541 Ultimate! I promise I won't steal it! ;)

I think it may well have a very big lock chaining it to the table as well as having gps tracking installed ;)
-
Be nice to see the GameBase collection running on it. Soon as the next batch/Ultimate II released I'll deff be placing an order.
-
Maybe give it a go on my modded DTV64 (Got the bits to do the mod today! ;D )

Well, I'm back in employement now, so quite busy.

Will sort the blog posting out in the next few days .. still need to upload my Console Combat articles :)

Anyone interested in a Unix/Linux setup in November. Maybe some old Apples running AUX or some old SUN gear? Maybe even some XENIX?
-
I got a XENIX boot floppy - challenge you to find a PC that doesn't blow up its floppy driver (Microsoft influence on Unix - ick).
I also happen to know where RCM's Sun boxes are stored and which swear-words AndyRCM will use when asked to get a couple down....

Do you know what models they are? Maybe I could get them installed on the day? I think woody.cool may bring his SparcClassic for me to get working too.
-
I know there's a couple of pizza-box models in there.. SparcStation 20s I think.
There's also an SGI Indy that I donated to RCM about 2 months back.
-- Richard
-
I have a SS20. Nice machine - but think the clock battery will need replaceing soon. Its a old Dallas time chip, so its not a simple battery replacement. You can 'dremmel' in a new battery! :)
Indy! Nice! I wish I had one of those. Maybe i need to find some Irix media then! :)
BTW - I was joking about he XENIX system. Microsoft Unix - I think not.....
-

It runs Gentoo Linux rather well if you have a netboot machine to install from. Or you can bungee a SCSI CDROM in there.

;) But I wasn't joking about the floppy issue... the floppy driver in XENIX locks up with most modern floppy drives.

Just thinking of booking a hotel for Saturday night now.
I see the Comfort Inn Hincley North Hotel has £30 rooms again, but from what I remember there were some right noisy ***** opposite me last time :D
Anyone know of any closer cheaper hotels or would the Comfort Inn be a good choice?
-
Hermitage Hotel, Coalville
-
there is a premier inn by junction 22 M1 (Markfield ) that is not too far away. Much closer than the Comfort Inn , But Hermitage Hotel is the closest being about 3 miles away from the venue.
-

My server has netboot (TFTP/NFS/DHCP) ;D
-
sorry folks its a Travel Lodge at junction 22 Of M1, the Premier Inn is in Ashby-de-la-Zouch, near the A42/M42 junction 13. Both of these are about 4 miles (ish) from the venue.
-
I wasn't impressed with the Travel Lodge on the M1 when I stayed there in may. The place itself was alright, but its located in the service station, so you have to pay for overnight parking in their car park.
WHICH I only found out the next morning when I could actually *SEE* the signs (theres no lighting in the car park) and the parking enforcement vehicle was circling like a vulture....
I'm playing to stay at the Premier Inn instead ;)
-- Richard
-
Ashby de la Zouch has a couple of Hotels too, The Royal, The Queens and The Fallen Knight
Gary
-
Thanks for the info everyone.
I stayed at a Travelodge (Leicester Markfield) last time:
http://www.travelodge.co.uk/search_and_book/hotel_overview.php?hotel_id=146
At £32 for one night, room only. Parking was free. Reception gave me something to stick in my windscreen:
Parking Details Parking On Site (Free) Travelodge car park has 60 spaces free of charge, available on a first-come first-served basis.
Anyway the Hermitage Hotel sounds a bit grim (I am sure it is nice tho!) and too much at £40 a night, so a quick search and I have found this:
http://www.broadlawns.co.uk/
Broadlands Guest House. £32.50 for a single en suite including brekfast and 2.6 miles (6 mins) from swannington. That should do quite nice, and perhaps a bit nicer than a travelodge or travel inn.
You can also book online here:

Two people sharing a single sounds a bit dodgy. I would not want to be accidentally........
-
it might sound a bit dodgy if your names were Ben Doon and Phil Mcavity ;)
-
Finally pulled me finger out and bought a ticket (now I know I'm not going to be in hospital until after it's over !!) :)

Yeah, I'll bring my SparcClassic ..... I've still not got it up and running yet, but any help with that will be appreciated, please & thank you!
-
Hi,
Just to confirm, RCM will not be providing any of its Sun/Unix machines at the open day in November. On August 16th they were consigned to storage, and are not easily retrievable. As the general interest will be in more conventional gaming, we won't be getting any out on the day.
You are of course welcome to bring your own boxes, providing you can find a space to set up :)
-- Richard
-
Ok Phu, looks like the UNIX stuff will be represented by me & AndyT then :D
-
Numbers of pre-sold tickets is creeping up nicely ;D
-
Yeah they are, but it would be nice to hit 50 pre-sales which we did in May 2009.!
-
What a coincidence I'd just book myself a Ticket just now! :D
-
Is the ticket were available as of now?Because I want to be sure that if I want to buy a ticket they should need to use a valid ticket for this event,so that none can brought a problem.

Tickets are available now, they are available to buy online until the end of October.
After that date you can only get a ticket at the event.

Looking at the piss poor wording and link in the signature, with just 1 post I would guess that is a SPAM Bot.
-
I dunno. I added extra complications to the signup process, so it would have to be a manual intervention bot. I've seen piss-poor wording like this from genuine people before.
I'll admit I was suspicious over the signature too.

That would be me then :)

Get those *all* the time on Atari Forum - we've even added *@gmail.com to the ban list and they still get through (although nowhere near as much as they used to). That measure and the first three posts need to be verified as genuine keeps a lot of the junk at bay.

What about genuine people with gmail accounts....like me? It's my main account since i closed my hotmail after it got hijacked.
I didn't think you could get gmail accounts any more - only googlemail now?

C'est la vie .. unfortunately, gmail was the 'spammers choice' for a while so that means everyone suffers. It's easier when it's known domains in China or Russia (where you know they're just spamming, or trying to sell you World of Yawncraft character upgrades) but it just got into a daily cycle of seeing all these new members, all with gmail accounts and 99.9% of them were spammers.
The decision was made once before (pre the "3 posts check" introduction) and it helped a lot. Then a member tried to change their main email address and couldn't - so we unbanned *@gmail.com .. and the floodgates opened again.
A forum admin's lot is not always a happy one :)
-
I may swap one of my machines for the RM Nimbus that I got working last night. Anyone interested in seeing it?
I will have Trains and Worm with me! ;D

Hell yeah!
I'll probably spend some time playing Trains and Worm. They're a blast from my childhood!

Simple - you change your address to @googlemail.com instead of @gmail.com when signing up to forums that ban @gmail.com. Both work at pointing towards your google mail account.
-
Look like my plan of bringing some unix gear isnt going to happen - ive just not had time to get anything decent ready. Dont think people would find a shell prompt interesting.
So, I have 2 'gaps' in the machines im bringing. Take a look at my list of equipment, and let me know what you would like to see! http://retrocomputers.wordpress.com/my-computers/
@woody - should still be able to take a look at your sun box for you....
-
I vote for the Tatung Einstein TC-01. looks interesting.
-
Take a look at my list of equipment, and let me know what you would like to see! http://retrocomputers.wordpress.com/my-computers/
I noticed Amstrad CPC464 (With 6 slot ROM board) on the list ..... what's the 6 slot ROM board and what ROMs you got in it?
-
No ROMs in it at the moment. Did have the 6128 ROMs in once so you can have Basic 1.1. Sadly, this ROM board doesnt fit on the 6128 as the video cable is in the way.
If you see any ROMs out there you want to see, let me know!
Im sure there will be another 464 at the event, so instead of bringing mine, we could put it on that.
-
Do you have the DK'Tronics Speech ROMs? (I think it was DK that done them)
-
Will be bringing a copy of this game : http://orion.cpcscene.com/
Its in french, but it really pushes the CPC to its limit. It even runs off a 720k disk, with all 720k used. This is without an additional disk OS!
-

I think the DK'Tronics expansion was more than just a ROM. Used a speech chip of some sort. I may be wrong...

That looks superb. According to the site, 3" disk versions are also available :o :D
-
I will also bring my EPROM burner incase anyone needs anything burning to ROM.
I will also have my PC that runs OmniDisk and StarCommadner so if anyone needs any disks duplicating on creating, see me. Will have a small game collection with me too! ;)
-
Bring your loose change, pending disasters there will be a room FULL of arcade machines, all are set to just 20p a game (had great fun resetting them all ;D so a nice little fund raiser for RCM and I will be armed with a big bag full of change for those of you who insist on only bringing notes....
-
A huge thank you to Akastaff for organising/supplying the arcade machines - believe me you won't fail to be impressed - nice collection!
Andy
-
I enjoyed the arcade cabs at the members event in August, so I'm sure I will again :)
-
If we can do the physical moving there should be :-
House Of The Dead
Operation Wolf 3
Blasteroids
Gunblade NY (Massive 50" Screen)
Williams Congo Pinball Table
Centaur Voyager 35 Multigame Vertical Classics
UltraCade 105 Multigame Horizontal Classics
LordsVale NEOGEO 4 Multigame
Super KIXX Football Table
Sega Naomi Virtua Tennis 2
Heh Im gonna teach Andy and Company just how damn heavy these things are !!!! LOL
-
We had best all eat three Shredded Wheat for breakfast then ;D
Great line-up there, can't wait!
-
Well . . . if I eat three shredded wheat for breakfast you wont see me for three days! :(
-
baggsy me first on the pinball! ;D
-
Gunblade, Operation Wolf and House of the dead will get a few 20p's off me ;D
-
Yeah - some superb machines to be honest! I can't really thank Akastaff enough! :)
Andy

what a morning!
trying to get everything together and tested, just got two 65xe's to put back together and make a flashcart with some multiplayer Atari 8bit games, sort out some 2600 carts for sir morris, dig out 2 monitors from the garage, update the dingoo, find some joysticks, pack it all safely. Check I have got everything promised and then have a cup of tea :o
-
Joysticks! I knew I forgot something!
Everything else is tested and ready to go. PC full of games. Commander Keen any one? Wolfenstien 3D? Doom.
Got a couple of demos on it too - including Second Reality! ;D
-
Wolfenstien 3D? Doom.
Hell yeah!

maybe some DOOM guru can show me how to complete the level Tricks and Traps? I've never managed to complete it.
