Title: Website / Domain name advice
Post by: Panther on January 11, 2011, 03:00:29 PM
Currently my wife and her sister have a company website for their catering business, they also run a cafe and may be taking a second premises on and running that under a different name.

I registered the domain name for the current site and that has been going for the last 2 years, my question is; if I wanted to register extra domain names (e.g. Cafe1 & Cafe2), can I link these to the original website without anymore hosting requirements and who's the cheapest for domain names ?

Not the cheapest, but definitely a good service - joker.com - £7 for 2 years for a .co.uk I think.

Meanwhile, yes you can link multiple domains to the same actual site subject to:

1) Your hosting provider is happy to add the extra domains to their config for your site

2) Your website code doesn't have any absolute links or other dependencies of the original domain.

Upload the PDF to your website, and add a link to the location of the file in the webpage, e.g.

<A HTTP="docname.pdf">Download PDF here</A>

Obviously, you can put in the appropriate directory path in there as well, so <A HTTP="mypdfs/docname.pdf"> works too.

I still do raw HTML, largely because the automated stuff (like Dreamweaver) generally cause more problems.  Still haven't done any CSS yet, but that's because I mainly deal with databases so my time is consumed by PHP.

I'm with XILO at the moment. The package I've got allows me to run up to 2 seperate domain names with seperate content, or multiple "parked" domain names each with the same content as the primary domain name.

For me hosting is just under £40 for a year, with 2GB of space, PHP functionality and 5 SQL databases, amongst other features.

My .co.uk domain name costs me £10 for 2 years.

I've had some downtime issues with them, but they've totalled a week in 4 years, which is better than any of my previous providers.
