Yep - powered the PC on earlier today to start building the OS - all was going well for about 30mins (until it began to heat up) and then the magic smoke appeared and things don't look so good now :(
Now I have a problem - The Arcade VGA card I have for use with the original arcade monitor is AGP - and the only spare kit I have is more modern and PCIe.
Do I go in search of an old AGP motherboard which, lets face it, won't run anything more than the "classic" games or do I invest in RCM and order a PCIe ArcadeVGA card for my spare machine (core2duo - so more than capable).
Timing is crap as I have all the 0.141 ROMS, CHDs and a front-end all ready to roll.
-
What an absolute shame - looked to be a good machine! :)
Looks like we are destined never to have a working MAME cab for too long - although our batop was okay at the last show! :)
I will leave it in your hands mate . . . You have donated so much already! I can't say one way or another what to do!
Up to you mate. :)

I have an asus P4b thats destined for the bin, you're more than welcome. It has a duron or something in it. cant remember the speed...
[edit] ooh theres some RAM in there too
-
@rewind - can we take that mobo anyway please? it might come in handy for the other mame cab! ;) A
-
You most certainly can Andy. It comes with a free case (muahahaha).
May, or sooner if I get sick of it?
-
Thanks mate. Whenever you want mate! ;) You know you are welcome to visit! :)

Cheers. It might come to it ;)
-
I've ordered a new ArcadeVGA card - hopefully it will arrive next week so we will have a working MAME cab for May.
-
Nice one Simon! ;) Speak to you soon. A

All up and running - New PC with dual core CPU, 2GB Ram, Latest ArcadeVGA card - running like a dream - just setting up the front end now to make it nice a pretty.
Think I will need to put a set of powered speakers in the cab - can RCM put the roughest looking set to one side for that please.... even better if they have a sub unit :-)
-
Should've said... I think we chucked a sub on the basis of there being nothing to match it with ;)
There's a whole set of speakers in the blue crate on top of the A5000 box. Should be something suitable in there.

Thanks for that Simon - Can't wait to have a play on that! ;) Speakers are not a problem at all - we have a few sets! :)

Nice! with specs like that, should be fun to see something like Daphne/Nebula running on it. Oh and regarding speakers, i found that even the most crappy 'petrol station specials' siund pretty good inside the wooden cab providing plenty of accoustic bass.
-
Oh, but an arcade cab is just the ideal place to make use of a folding transmission line!!!!
(yeah google it :P)

Front-end done - with MAME all setup with a selection of its greatest hits (the whole 9000 roms are too many to list for an open day!!)
What other systems/emulators do you guys want me to put on there.... Daphne + DL is one I can do (I actually have an orginal DL disk to get the video from) - I don't have the video for any of the other Daphne games.
-
OK - PC is now ready to put into the CAB on my next visit to RCM. Has fully working front-end, MAME and Daphne (minus DLair2, Space Ace unless somebody has the files).
Will add other emulators if I get time - and will also dump my entire TOSEC + more collection of files onto the disk so RCM members can connect to it via USB etc and download.
-
Nice one Simon - see you soon with that! ;)
-
Outstanding sir. I can sort you out with the missing Daphne roms.
