I went to Gamecity last week in Nottingham. It was pretty cool and had some good rooms and installations. The massive missile command was ace! But for retro gaming was left a little underwhelmed. Not that much retro wise to play on and seemed to be a plethora of Wiis and Playstations.  The bar was pretty cool with craft ales and an xbox, psx  and gamecube where you exchange games at the bar.  Not a patch on RCM though for the variety of hands on fun with all RCMs lovely stuff.

Andy told me about the very cool MSX stuff that will be appearing at Back to Basics, so hope I can make it !

Quote ..
On the 4th of April 2015, MSX users Al Brown (Valkyre) and Fernando Garcia from the United Kingdom will be representing the MSX at the Back to Basics multi-platform retro event.

Al and Fernando have been allocated two tables and will be showing the MSX, MSX2, MSX2+ and MSX turbo R along with some nice bits of hardware such as MegaFlashROMs, Playsoniq, the Modulon slot expander, FM PAC, the Moonsound and a stack of the best software, both old and new. On top of this they will be showcasing a new MSX game soon to be available on cartridge.

Apart from pleasantly surprising the UK public with the quality of the MSX, it's also a good opportunity for UK MSX users or any MSX fans that happen to be in the area for a visit and a chat.

Roughly a Jap Saturn unmodded is worth 30 / 40 quid. Modded for region free etc your talking 50 / 60 quid plus depending on condition and model of Saturn.

HARDWARE/SYSTEMS DISCUSSION / RCMs MSX2 - Finally have games working !
« on: November 15, 2014, 08:58:54 AM »

I have finally managed to get MSX2 games and demos working on the RCM MSX2 using floppys.

Sadly as yet I am unable to get games or demos to play via WAV .. I tried lots of different programs playing converted WAVs with lots of baud rates but still no joy.
You can still play all MSX1 games as WAVs so long as the ROM you convert is less than 32k. It takes around 2 mins max to load a MSX 1 game as a WAV.
I will at some point get an old MP3 player or mobile and load up as many MSX1 WAVs as I can fit on a SD card.

For the MSX2 I just needed a Windows laptop, USB floppy drive, some 720kb DD disks and some excellent software I found called DIsk-Manager
Simply select the DSK image you want to create on floppy and away you go.

Not all DSK images worked, some disks did not autostart so you needed to run the game from MSX basic. Some games and demos need 256k kb memory too, if somebody wants to kindly upgrade the MSX2 please do !

With the disks Andy gave me to test I managed to get some decent games sorted such as the original metal gear and the excellent shooter Space Manbow albeit without sound as it need 256kb memory for sound. I also managed to get 4 player Bomberman (2 keyboard / 2 joystick) working.

If anyone has any MSX game / demo requests please let me know ! There are a few exclusives like Knightmare 2 and Hydefos that I cant get working yet ..

I think there may be other carts available but Harmony is the best. Its not that expensive compared to other flash carts. Most VCS carts are cheap as chips on the evil bay, I just ordered Warlords or some Xmas paddle fun :)

Wow amazing, I'm defo in for a shed party ! My daughter would love the 2p machine too !!

REVIEWS (of Hardware) / Hyundai A7art Cheap 7" Tablet
« on: August 19, 2013, 09:41:05 AM »
Picked up a 60 doillar 7" tablet for my 4 year old.

1.2 Ghz single core CPU, Mali 400 GPU, 512mb RAM, 4GB rom 3000 MAh battery.

Not bad at all for the price, works fine as long as you dont try and do too much as once. Plays stuff like Bad Piggies etc no problem, not tried any 3d stuff yet. Screen is fairly responsive, viewing angle ok. Found out it has a fm transmitter too which is a bonus. Battery life 3 to 4 hours with wifi ish.

For 38 quid cant complain really :)
