FOR SALE / WANTED / For Sale: Old computer parts
« on: June 29, 2017, 09:03:12 AM »
Hi All,

I'm having a clear out and didn't know if any members or RCM would find use for any of this stuff.

I've found a lot of old RAM, PCI cards (sound cards, video cards, tv capture cards), seemingly endless amounts of PCI network cards 10/100 and 10/100/1000, PCI and ISA dial-up modem cards, some SCSI cards, old motherboards (probably dead and will bin) and probably some other random bits and pieces.

I've also been going through my 'wire collection' and appear to have more scart, RCA, VGA/DVI and SATA/IDE cables than probably any one person could use in a life time - would anyone like to help me thin out this collection?

I'm not really 'selling' this, I was thinking maybe if RCM would like any of this I could bulk post or anyone is free to collect from Bristol if you're local?

Let me know your thoughts as i'll be going through most of it at the weekend hopefully.

Recently I have sat on a weekend looking for places to go and always wished there was an easily accessible list of game-shops that sell old games, as well as places of interest. However as I have not been able to find such a list I decided to start my own.

Places to visit in Bristol.

The Gamescene UK franchise: (Keynsham branch best for old games)
The Pink Planet franchise: (Gloucester Road branch best for old games)

Places to visit in London.

Funland Arcade -

please add as many places as you can  ;D

OFF TOPIC / I PASSED my driving test!
« on: February 22, 2010, 07:22:38 PM »
Finally I passed today  ;D so myself and my friend 'Joe' took a drive along the M5 for a bit just to get used to driving on motorways. It went well and we hope to be at the next gaming event... which ever the nearest one to today is  :D.

PS I have finally got round to finishing a Robotron connect 4 case. will upload pictures soon.

Modchip world have been out of stock for months, and on an old post that link was recommended to me, i want 2 but definitely don't want 5, if I was to buy them would anyone want then?

OFF TOPIC / eBay stories - what went wrong
« on: December 08, 2009, 11:49:46 AM »
eBay, many say "stay away" but i've always liked it.

My new thinkpad arrived today, upon opening the box something didn't look right but i continued anyway. i un-wrapped the laptop powered it up and everything seemed ok, then i went for the AC adaptor.. it was a 2 pin plug, then i look at the manual... its German!

can anyone see in this auction a note saying 'its German? I quote "Localisation: English". at least the laptop is English, but what am i meant to do with all the random German junk that come with it.

Just had a stupid thought... I recently RGB modded my SMS2, can i plug my Amstrad monitor into it and get a picture? I also hear using an Arcade VGA with the right cable would allow a PC to connect to it.. what resolution would you have to drop to to be able to use it?

GENERAL RETRO CHIT CHAT / If you could, which consoles would you own?
« on: November 20, 2009, 10:54:15 PM »
Today I decided as my birthday is rather soon, I would treat myself to a Crystal Xbox I had been looking at in a shop. It was £30 and came with RCA lead, power lead and crystal S controller. I'm not sure if that was a good or bad deal? (anyone know?) but am rather happy with it.

If you could, what consoles would you get?

PS Does anyone have any hints for good Xbox games?  ;D

GENERAL RETRO CHIT CHAT / Travel/ Mini Connect 4
« on: November 05, 2009, 09:30:18 PM »

As a side project to assist our technology department in projects I am designing and building a Connect 4 Travel game using a laser cutter made of acrylic.

I will have pictures of an example soon, but was wondering if members of the forum would be interested. It will be a bit bigger than a deck of cards 107x78.5x18mm and hopefully can be engraved with any theme (with in reason) for the counters and casing.

Pricing will initially be to cover my costs however I may add a pound or 2 to be donated to RCM  :)

OFF TOPIC / New TV aerial
« on: October 19, 2009, 07:34:02 PM »
As you may have guess i'm helping my dear gran out into the new technology world ! 2 black and white TV's are sitting ready for Andy/phu and a new digital tv sat in her front room! To my amazement her 60s aerial seems to pick up 3, 4 and 5 totally fine on digital, however BBC1 and 2 only come on in the afternoon and can't be picked up in the morning, and most of the other channels seem to be intermittent. The cable is perrishing and to my horror full up with water that poured out everywhere when i removed the connector on the indoor tv side. I'm getting up on the ladder Thursday, so really need a decision by then.

My question is this. What aerial/wiring would you recommend. we are in Bristol (BS15 9) and use Mendip as the transmitter. this one looks a reasonable price.

I have also read that standard brown coax. just won't cut it in this digital world. which sucks when i have a opened but unused 100m reel!

any advice welcome  ;D
