HARDWARE/SYSTEMS DISCUSSION / Re: Converting .cas files

Just my thoughts on the Atari Cassette loading.
410 units are a piece of junk (and always were)
1010s do a better job
xc12 seem to be much more reliable even though they look like a cheap POS

Yep I'd agree. I've never even tried to use any of my 410s to load anything. I have a box full of 1010s and I think all of them probably have bad belts. I hate the XC12 because it looks and feels like the cheap ass Tramiel era POS it is, but darn it if it doesn't keep on working. I have a couple of XC11s but I've never tries those either. Anything I load from tape right now is on a beat up scuffed and bashed XC12.

FOR SALE / WANTED / Re: WANTED:30pin 8 chip simms 4 x 1meg

Wish I'd known you were looking for an ST external drive as well as a 1050. I have a almost boxed Cumana in the loft which you'd be welcome to. I must admit to having no idea whether it works or not but I could drag out my ST and test it. I may also have some simms, have to have a look.

Let me know if you're interested in the drive and I'll check it out.

Hi Folks

I'm Paul from Darlington in the North East. I'm an Atari 8 bit nut. I have a loft and home office stuffed full of Atari stuff (or all that eBay tat as my wife calls it ;-) ) In my time I've owned of used a huge amount of stuff now considered retro computing. Oh and I've got a number of Amigas dotted around too - but I don't get much time for them at the moment.

I usually hang out over at Atari Age and I know one of the other members here (1200XL) from there. It's nice to see so many folks here in the UK keeping the retro dream alive!

Not yet. I haven't looked. Ordering the boards from Steve was an automatic reaction really I haven't thought about bit yet.

EDIT: Looks like RS sell the exact same one as Steve lists in the parts list: http://uk.rs-online.com/web/search/searchBrowseAction.html?method=getProduct&R=5025004

Although they are out of stock at the moment. I'll try to work up a UK parts list with suppliers I think.

I gave up my pre-order slot when they decided that they couldn't accept credit card orders for the first batch. I know it was all down to the banks and I really do have confidence in the project but I just didn't feel comfortable spending that kind of money without the backup of the card insurance. :( :( :(

Ah well, maybe I'll get in on batch 2.

Gotta keep the Atari flag flying  ;D

OK - I found the info for the guy I got the belt for my 1010 from:

spares@videosonic.co.uk

Videosonic Services
37 Coleman Avenue
Hove
Sussex
BN3 5ND

The dimensions I sent were:

Diameter: 85.7mm
Height: 3mm
Width: 0.635mm

And he supplied a belt with an 81mm diameter which worked fine. I have a box full of 1010s I should get round to checking them all at some point I guess.

Hope its of help.

Hey folks. I've replaced 1010 belts. Real spares are hard to find (and will possibly be in as bad a condition as the originals - they'll be just as old) I took the dimensions of the belt and looked online for people selling tape deck / video recorder / turntable spares and just emailed the dimensions out. I found a guy who had a belt which was IIRC a little bit smaller in diameter but it did the job fine. If I can find his details I'll post 'em up.
