Cool. I'll let you know when it's finished, and show you how it works.

CODING AREA / Flash MP3 Playlist Player
« on: November 03, 2010, 11:08:29 AM »
Hi guys. I haven't been here for a while. I would like to offer you the use of my Flash MP3 Playlist Player.

It isn't finished yet, but there's a demo of it at

It's running a Sonic the Hedgehog playlist from a text file. The buttons don't work yet, but it can be easily modified to run any MP3's you want, so if you have any music from the days of the C64 or Spectrum, and you want people to listen to them, this could be a way of putting the music files on the site without putting them up for direct download.

Just let me know if and when you are interested in adding this feature to the site.

I've been playing Super Mario World on the SNES. My son says it's better than New Super Mario Bros. on the DS.

I thought I'd keep you all up to date with the latest happenings in the 8 Bit Pwny Club:

Episode 3 - Top 10 Games of the Nowts
Episode 4 - Top 5 Worst Companies in Games

Not a funny video, but just really cool - a guy has made an electric guitar out of an Asian Mega Drive:
Green Hill by Mega Driver
Rise From Your Grave by Mega Driver
All Your Base Are Belong To Us
Battle Field
Final Zone / Robotnik

There's more. They may deserve their own thread.

I've been getting them sorts of users on the Barcode Universe forum for a while. I delete them if they don't post anything within 48 hours, or sooner if they have adverts in their sig.

Wise words there regarding M$ Office and the media on which it is available.

I don't like the idea of a Twittering Spectrum though - there must be better things for a Spectrum to be running ;)

OFF TOPIC / If anyone has to ask what an Atari 2600 is...

If anyone has to ask what an Atari 2600 is, please send them to the relevent page on the RCM site.

When they've read that, send them on to the following page:

Once you get past the brilliant fake game box art, there's a section about "frying" which explains why the Atari 2600 is better than an XBox 360.

I might build a fake megadrive cart slot to stick onto my DS. Then it will look like I am playing the game off the cart. Some people might think it is real and ask where they can get one.

The technical explanation about the changes to the molecular structure of the CPU sound dubious.

I am working on a design for a low temperature transistor combination for logic though - it should prevent the thermal effect they're trying (very badly) to describe.

I'll certainly give it a try. It can't be worse than the first zone in Sonic Rush.

I've found a half-finished Mega Drive emulator for the DS. It works the same as running DS homebrews.

Some of the larger games won't run at all, and many have noticable glitches, such as invisible potions in Golden Axe, but it's worth it to be able to play Sonic 2 on a bus.

I have the original carts for the games, but I refuse to carry them onto the bus. Does that make it illegal for me to play them on the bus?

Sega are trying to win over retro Sonic fans by making a new Sonic game with old style gameplay (2D) and modern graphics (3D). I can see how this would be appealing.

But just how retro is it?
Is it:
Very retro - gameplay counts for everything.
Half retro - the gameplay looks sound, but the graphics bring the retro score down.
Not retro - it was made too recently, and it won't work on a Mega Drive.

I'm torn between Half and Not.

OFF TOPIC / Re: Just how big is the universe?
« on: February 13, 2010, 09:33:20 PM »
I heard that the universe is expanding faster than the speed of light.

I'm no physicist, but I reckon the universe is like a table cloth. The stuff that exists in the universe (matter, energy, electromagnetic waves, etc) is like the cutlery and crockery. It moves about on the table cloth.
The space-time of the universe is the table cloth. Space-time might have a substrate - in this analogy, the table. The table is infinitely large (or almost infinitely large). The table cloth is growing over the table faster than the speed of light. The growth of the table cloth is independant of its movement.

A black hole (or anything with a gravitational field) distorts the table cloth, pulling it in. Acceleration due to gravity is caused by this motion of space-time. It also explains why the effects of time dilation apply to an object in motion AND to an object in a large gravitational field.

Just an analogy to cover my theory.
