GENERAL RETRO CHIT CHAT / Other retro computer archives

Hey all,

I'm probably a bit behind the times with this as I'm sure most of you will know about it already, but I recently came across the website for the National Media Museum in Bradford who have a small collection of retro video game consoles:

I know RCM has a much larger collection but I thought at least some of you would be interested to know about other collections that are out there.

Again, apologies if everyone already knows about this.

GAMING . . . / Re: Sonic the Hedgehog remade

Mainly just Megadrive (Sonic 1 and 2 specifically).  I've tried other sonics, but not been impressed.  Although, I tried Sonic 4 in Blackpool and it looks promising, but considering they are milking it by selling it in parts I think I'll wait till you can get it cheaper as a whole game.

Also, I hate the new sonic style as well: the stupidly long legs, scary eyes and sharp hair.  Its just not sonic!!

Well, fans of the original sonics anyway.  Not as keen on the new ones.

Our first conversation was about sonic, and we discovered I knew more about the gameplay of sonic 1 than matt did  :P

Ive heard its really bad for your eyes, and that children under 6 years old shouldnt play it as it can cause permanent damage.

I think it also has problems with the viewing angle, but having never tried one I cant say for certain.

Matt found this and being Sonic fans, we thought it looked amazing

Excellent, it even catches me winning a round at bomberman.

I didnt realise that I didnt move or blink when I played games.  I looked like I was a corpse playing a video game!

RCM GAMING EVENTS - OPEN DAYS 2010 / Re: May Open Day 2010 Feedback
« on: May 17, 2010, 11:05:35 AM »
Matt (homgran) and I had a great time.  Highlights for me was winning a single match of Bomberman, nevermind getting a prize :D.  Was great to play in a competition I stood a chance at winning though, usually I would be out in the first round.

Improvements: I would also agree with a PA system of some kind, was difficult to hear the raffle ticket numbers being shouted out.

Other than that I had a brilliant time and looking forward to coming along to the next event (even if there is a 6 hour drive involved!).

Matt (homgran) and I will try to remember to bring English bank notes with us this time, got some funny looks with our funny Scottish money last time  :P

OFF TOPIC / Re: What Do You Look Like?

Here's an artist's impression of me  :P

I joined as recently as last weekend after attending your most recent events day.

I'm Linds from Kilwinning in Scotland and just finished my PhD in medical statistics at University of Glasgow.  Finally, after 8 years (!!!), I am no longer a student - but now I get to use the title Dr. (mwah, ha, ha!!).

I had a mega drive when I was younger and met my boyfriend after having a lengthy discussion about Sonic the Hedgehog while in a night club on Christmas eve.  Turns out I knew more hidden passageways in Sonic 1 than he did :D

I really like survival horrors other than slasher flicks, especially British survival horrors like The Descent.

Also, psychological horrors are pretty good, the Asians do them really well.  Check out R-Point, a Korean film.

Finally, I can't watch Event Horizon alone.  I love it to bits but the whole "eye" thing gets to me.

If you mean horrible as in terrible though, then the most shocking film I've seen recently was Crank 2: High Voltage, which is the only film I have ever walked out on.  Although Spirit Trap comes a close second (stars Billie Piper, need I say more).

RCM GAMING EVENTS - OPEN DAYS 2009 / Re: Thank you . . .

Just like to say that I had a great time at the event and thanks to Andy and Linda for organising it.  This was the first event I had been to and I wasn't sure what to expect.  I had a ZX Spectrum when I was little and seeing some of the games I used to play brought back some good memories  :D.

We drove all the way from Glasgow, Scotland to come to this so it shows how far some people are willing to go for retro video games  :P.

Can't wait for the next one.
