Can anyone help me please..... Google is confusing me!!

I've decided to give MAME a blast after a while away so:

What is the best user interface for a PC to run MAME? - keyboard access is possible

Where is the best place to get the complete Romset? - as I have different ones and I'm thinking it may be best to delete all and start again!

if not....

Is there any software that checks your MAME Roms folder, reports errors and fixes/updates broken/missing roms?

Can anyone help with an idiots guide!!!

I can not seem to write a .SSD game image to a 3.5" floppy disk (with one hole) what am I doing wrong???

This is what I currently do:

Format disk on PC using OmniFlop using these options:

40/1/10x256 Acorn BBC DFS 40-track single sided 100kb  or using 80/1/10x256 Acorn BBC DFS 80-track single sided 200kb as both work

Say's disk has formatted successfully :)

If I try to use OmniFlop to write a disk it says "failed to write to the disk. The operation was abandoned" - this includes a game image I have downloaded and a game image I have created from a BBC B Disk Phu has given me - as I know the original runs on the machine ok and it created the image without any problems.

also...I format the disk on my BBC B using formatting software (I can't remember the name but it displays "Utilitie" above the menu)  and it fails on track 28 when I try to format as drive 0 and 40 track (when I try drive 0 and 80 track it fails on track 50)

What am I doing wrong ???

As the heading say's really.....favourite does not necessarily mean most expensive!!

Mine would be:

My Oric-1 16k - as I was after one for a long time
SNES - the first console i owned with my own money
Copy of Hobbit for BBC B as spent many hours on this at my best friends when it was released
Complete Sega Genesis set up - Genesis console, Sega CD & Genesis 32X

I know that's four!!!

Can anyone on here update the Firmware on a Everdrive MD ???

Mine is version 4 but the current is v12 which I really want as it means you can use the cart to boot any Sega CD Bios :)

This is from the manual:

Q: How do I update the firmware myself?
A: It is not suggested the user updates the firmware. Doing so could damage the
user's EverDrive-MD and may void any warranty. Here is how the user can
update the firmware:
1.  Purchase an "Altera USB Blaster" and a JTAG connector.
2.  Install the "Altera Quartus II Web Edition" software.
3.  Connect Altera USB Blaster and install driver from
"C:\altera\10.0sp1\quartus\drivers\usb-blaster\".
4.  Run Altera Quartus II Web Edition software.
5.  Open "Tools -> Programmer".
6.  Press "Hardware Setup" button and select "USB Blaster".
7.  Press "Add File" button and select the firmware (*.pof) file.
8.  Put bare board in Genesis/Mega-drive console.
9.  Connect JTAG to board and hold at angle to make a good connections.
10. Switch Genesis/Mega-drive power on.
11. Press "Start" in Quartus programmer tool.

Or would it just be easier to get my Pal MD2 & MCD2 region moded ???

As titles says really - you can use an Everdrive Cart on Mega Drive to unlock all CD regions - like the very expensive Datel CDX cart  ;D

Not Sure if this works...not had chance to try it yet...but I will  :D

Can you add an external 3.5" fdd to a Spectrum +3 ??? or internal even!

I have done this for my CPC 6128 and all works well....would the same drive work on the +3??
