OFF TOPIC / Re: Favourite Song Lyrics . . . I have lots . . .
« on: January 18, 2010, 11:54:44 PM »
One of my favourites songs at the moment:

The Pogues - Boys from the County Hell

On the first day of March it was raining
It was raining worse than anything that I have ever seen
I drank ten pints of beer and I cursed all the people there
And I wish that all this raining would stop bombing down on me

And it's lend me ten pounds, I'll buy you a drink
And mother wake me early in the morning

At the time I was working for a landlord
And he was the meanest bastard that you have ever seen
And to lose a single penny would grieve him awful sore
And he was a miserable b****cks and a b*tch's b***ard's wh*re

And it's lend me ten pounds, I'll buy you a drink
And mother wake me early in the morning

I recall we took care of him one Sunday
We got him out the back and we broke his f***ing balls
And maybe that was dreaming and maybe that was real
But all I know is I left that place without a penny or f*** all

And it's lend me ten pounds, I'll buy you a drink
And mother wake me early in the morning

But now I've the most charming of verandahs
I sit and watch the junkies, the drunks, the pimps, the wh*res
Five green bottles sitting on the floor
I wish to Christ, I wish to Christ
That I had fifteen more

And it's lend me ten pounds, I'll buy you a drink
And mother wake me early in the morning

And it's lend me ten pounds, I'll buy you a drink
And mother wake me early in the morning

The boys and me are drunk and looking for you
We'll eat your frigging entrails and we won't give a damn
Me daddy was a blue shirt and my mother a madam
And my brother earned his medals at Mai Lei in Vietnam

And it's lend me ten pounds and I'll buy you a drink
And mother wake me early in the morning

On the first day of March it was raining
It was raining worse than anything that I have ever seen
Stay on the other side of the road
'Cause you can never tell
We've a thirst like a gang of devils
We're the boys of the county hell

And it's lend me ten pounds and I'll buy you a drink
And mother wake me early in the morning

And it's lend me ten pounds and I'll buy you a drink
And mother wake me early in the morning

Wow, can't believe how quickly it warmed up over a couple of days. It hit 9C degrees here today, and to think it was still minus something last week! Everyone will be coming out in shorts and tshirts before long ;)

19:06 - got back from a 2.5 hour train trip from St. Annes-by-the-Sea (of which only an hour was travelling time!) after day 1 of a Joomla! training course.

23:44 - I was only down the road from you today - spent an hour or so in Lytham during work this afternoon!

Yeah, I noticed the "In memory of Doris Self" at the end of the film. Shame that :(
What a trooper though, you certainly don't see many ladies her age playing games, let alone challenging a world record highscore!

Walter Day seemed like a nice guy in the film. I wonder, did he ever release an album in the end? ;D

Hi everyone

Looking forward to tomorrow, it will be good to see everyone and take a look at the exhibition.

Does anyone know about parking near the venue, or about local places to eat?

Cheers
Jon

Hi Jon,

I don't know of any car parks close by that are open until late, but there's free parking along the street right outside The Fact (Wood Street). Just don't park there too early (before 5pm I think) otherwise the traffic wardens might leave you a ticket if you've been there for over an hour.

As for places to eat, there are loads around this area. Uncle Sam's on Bold Street (about a 30 sec walk away) do great meals (American/Italian) at a decent price.

Been meaning to see this for a while now, and finally got my chance at the cinema last night.

Although I knew it was a documentry, I wasn't too sure what to except. Pleased to say I thoroughly enjoyed it though!

Can't believe how much of an arse Billy Mitchell (except with that Q*Bert lady of course) and the majority of the Twin Galaxies people were. What a shame.

I'd love to go and visit Funspot one day. That place looks awesome.

Looks like they've got a fair bit going on there. More than I thought anyhow. Haven't had a chance to have a look around the galleries yet, but there's a few arcade machines in the bar area. Also they have Super Mario Bros downstairs with a HUGE coffee-table-sized NES controller. Awesome!

Picked up the programme, which is a bit more detailed than the website, so here's a few bits people might be interested in:

A couple of locals on the RG forum might also go.

I'm off to watch King of Kong there this evening, so might see if I can take some photos of the galleries while I'm there.

Had some lovely weather here the last few days. Not a cloud in the sky, and all the snow sparkling in the sunlight.

Shame it's clouded over again today. Apparently we're due more snow tonight and tomorrow. That'll mean another week stuck in the office :\

I'll see your going home time and raise you 4 Hours 20 Minutes to go 12 miles, and that was helped by two local farmers using tractors to tow people over the hill....

Sounds like a horrific journey O.o
Hope you had some good music to keep you going!

13:42 Charging my PSP up so I can finally connect it up to the PS3 for the first time (no idea why I've waited this long to try out Remote Play). Tried out the Media Server thing on the PS3 last night too. Very impressed how easy it was.
