Hello,
I am new here, but not to 8bit processors. I started on a ZX81 (was supposed to share it with my sisters..... sorry sis(es?)) then after a near miss with a Jupiter Ace (Phew!) my Dad got us an Oric1 48K. Now I know the "Accepted wisdom" is that the Oric1 keyboard was rubbish and that the Atmos was much better, but I loved the Oric1 keyboard... I sometimes wonder how many reviewers have actually tried one

I always wanted to program ("code" nowadays) in assembler, but I couldn't get my head round it at 13, and spent most of my secondary school evenings writing programs (in basic) to swap with my mate (he also had an Oric1). I couldn't afford to buy games at the time, and to be honest it was a good thing, I learnt a lot and it stood me in good stead for later life...
I got interested in electronics and eventually moved onto Pic micros (1996), I used an Oric (posh Atmos this time) with a home-built ADC to prove to my boss we needed a PC (a 386 - kit form for £800) to program them with... he went for it, and I have been programming Pics in assembler ever since!
I now work for a radio control company in Walsall and am grudingly moving over to C for our newer products (although I still maintain and code some smaller products in assembler). I showed our new engineer a picture of an Oric, his response was "Where is the screen?"..... things move on I guess
I always wanted to return to the Oric to finally do some asm programming, and thanks to a visit to RCM, my interest has been fired up again

Thank you Andy for putting up with me on Sunday, I had a great time, and can't wait to come back for a visit!
Regards
Matthew
