"Is this person for real?" Day to day questions from fellow eBayers...

I know that Andy has wanted us to start this thread for a while now, but there aren't enough hours in the day some times. I (Anna) have finally decided to start this thread on here.

The reason behind it is to post silly questions we get from buyers. Nearly on a daily basis.

We will never give out another persons' eBay user ID but we can "poke fun" at their silly questions. That's okay, isn't it?  

As soon as we've got something, we'll post it under this thread.

I didn't reply (it's best not to), but I thought about:

"I'm a Graphic Artist and wanted to try and get this game running in DosBox so I can pull some imagery from it, I've tried downloading the abandonware version of it, but it has the intro removed - Its the intro that I'm looking for. I was wondering as you have this games files on CD, if it might be possible to email the files in exchange for some cash via PAYPAL? I don't need the box or manual (I actually have and ST version) just thought it would save me some time and you could still sell the item?"

I can see where he's going, but it unfortunately reads as "I'm a graphic artist, can you please pirate this for me?"

...ten seconds later; he buys it. Without giving me a chance to reply. And then, when I've replied (that I don't know as we've not got the hardware to test it on) he will want to cancel the transaction.  

I am wondering, though, if English subtitles will help. I mean, he obviously needs to learn to write in English before he can read?

Doesn't that rather depend on if the PC in question has a 5.25" drive ? Or does Vista not support anything other than 3.5" ? even then I guess a boot disk would solve the problem......

Nah - you're applying intelligence to the situation, where it's clearly not present. Ask yourself what kind of person would ask that question? Not the kind of person who had a 5.25" floppy drive hacked into a vista PC....

Personally I am not keen on poking fun at anyone.

It may at first appear funny, but its not a nice behaviour.

One of your Forum guests may indeed be the person that you are taking the mickey out of.

I would like to read any story that is a joke !

I would much prefer that forum people tried to be helpful, Helping people to improve etc.
not taking the mick.

Fun at the expense of another is not friendly.

But a story that is amusing we can all share and enjoy.

What starts as ok under one topic could spread like a virus/disease around the forum.

I am keen that the 'shy' members of the forum, should gain confidence and make a contribution. This is unlikely to happen if they feel we will take the p**s.

Sorry but I disagree totally and it is/was my forum - people should READ what they are buying - all it does infuriate the sellers!
If they are that stupid to order something that won't work on their kit - more fool them. The seller in question shouldn't have to refund them!

Most forms of comedy usually involve making fun of someone. Often yourself. I do plenty of that, too, I have no shame, and I take as good as I get, as most regulars will know.

Andy, you should run ebay. In fact, you should run for government, since they too seem to take this "power to the consumer" thing to extremes. We could do with more of your type.
