C64 SID tunes on a VIC
« on: January 18, 2012, 07:13:50 PM »
Interesting WIP program on the Denial Vic-20 forums to convert c64 SID tunes for playback on a VIC20.

Uploaded a quick vid of me running one on my VC20. Distorted but great to hear the old girl sing!

If interested, you might like to read this interview with author of the SID emulator from way way back in issue four of Commodore Free magazine.

Alexi goes into detail regarding how it works.

It isn't anywhere near as highly specced as the SID, but has 3xSquare waves, and one Noise Gen, but has the ability to play sampled sounds, through the volume register (I think), just like the C64, hence it can playback these clever SID emulations, to make it sounds similar to a C64. this routine is very clever compression and playback of digital audio, is unusual to hear a VIC20 playing them. If you going to RCM in April ill bring Disks, and play back on a VIC if I think on...
