RCM Retro Game Decathlon line-up confirmed!
« on: May 26, 2009, 09:58:37 AM »
Right, voting is now closed and I can announce that the ten games for the RCM Retro Game Decathlon will be:

Bubble Bobble (MAME)
Galaga (MAME)
Pitfall! (Atari 2600)
Minestorm (Vectrex)
Chuckie Egg (BBC Micro)
Wizball (Commodore 64)
Duck Hunt (NES)
Choplifter (Master System)
Xenon 2: Megablast (Amiga)
Turbo OutRun (Megadrive)

Donkey Kong (MAME), Operation Wolf (Master System) and Scramble (Vectrex) all got the same number of votes as another winning game in their category so I made an 'executive decision' on which game to include.

I have a couple of prizes for the winner of the competition. Entry will be £1 (donated to the RCM) and the maximum number of entrants will be 12.

The competition will start at midday with the time preceding that allowed for practicing. I'd expect the competition to last around 3 hours.

I'll provide the MAME cab, Vectrex, NES and Master System but need to make use of somebody else's Beeb, Amiga, Megadrive, C64 and Atari 2600 - I believe the RCM will be supplying most of these. I'll bring all the games!  ;D

Let me know if you have any questions. A summary of the rules will be available on the day....

Some excellent choices there. Think I'll have to get some practice in on Duck Hunt, it's been a while!

Not played them all so it should be fun. Think I'll get some practice in on a few games now.

need to make use of somebody else's Amiga

I'll make sure Xenon 2 is on my Amiga 3000's hard drive ;) (if it's not an AGA game, it's probably already on it, tbh)

Nice one woody...

If anyone fancies practicing a couple of games, both Chuckie Egg and Galaga are available in the RCM arcade...

I was 'prepping' for the event this weekend just gone ... I've got my A3000 out at the moment, hooked up to a nice (ish) monitor :D
I'll get Xenon 2 on there one evening this week (and check it runs) but will also bring a copy on floppy disk (just in case the hard drive has a spaz)

Currently, my A3000 has quite a lot of games on it, so there's other stuff that can be played when it's not being used for competition.

Is it first come, first served to join this? If so, will those taking equipment along have an advantage of being one of the lucky 12?  ;)

Yes, it will be first come first served, but to make it fair for everyone I won't take any entries until the doors officially open...

I'm suprised you did'nt cheat!  ;D I had a go on the Atari version last week and got to level three, which I was pleased with. So I'm looking forward to playing on Sunday.

I also had a go last night and was pants - got about 35,000.

However I am confident of my abilities on some of the other games, especially having recently set a new personal best on Bubble Bobble of over 1.6 million! :D
